I have a old laptop (Vaio VGN-NR38M) that I need to install the card reader drivers on, as it is the only machine with a card reader I have access to.

I cannot for the life of me get any of the Texas Instruments installers to work that I have found on threads in this forum. The trouble is, They all seem to be Vista drivers, and even after installing in compatibility mode, it complains about the driver is "not intended for this platform"

If anyone could help out, that would be awesome :)

I know you're going to ask for hardware ID's so here they are:

PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_902D104D&REV_00
PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_902D104D
PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&CC_018000
PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&CC_0180

Your Vendor ID is 104C, and your Device ID is 803B. Go to www.pcidatabase.com and do a Device search on 803B. It will return some listings. At least one of these listings should have a match on the Vendor ID.

For all of the listings which have a match on both the Vendor ID (104C) and the Device ID (803B), click on the hyperlink on that listing, and follow it through. One (or more) of these links will get you to the correct driver.

Be sure to take notes about where you find the driver, the driver name, etc. And save a copy of the driver somewhere, in case you ever need it again.

Another option is to do a Windows Update. Search for updates; if it finds one for the card reader, install only that one update, then reboot.

Yeah I tried the windows update route before I posted, no joy in that respect. And your link is dead :(

ok... Driverguide.com brought back one result - sp30989.exe

I cant use that either - it shuts down the install complaining that the CPU is not sufficient - seriously?

Ever feel like you're banging your head against a brick wall?

I cant imagine that the drivers themselves would need many resources at all, so I guess I need to try and figure out how to edit the installer to disable the cpu check. I seem to remember doing this kind of thing once before but it was so long ago I forget now. But maybe this means I'm on the right trail...

Try unzipping the sp30989.exe file. It's probably just a bunch of files zipped up into one executable. If I'm right, then your driver will probably be among the unzipped files.
