Hi,

Does anyone know a good way to validate email addresses in a list (hopefully for free)?

Thanks,

JJ

I do not understand what you want to validate? do you want to know the source?
then all you need to do is rightclick (if you are using WLM) on Properties and it will show you everything there is to know about this email

This is a list of 4,000 old email addresses that have been brought over from AOL to Gmail to Outlook. I want to inform all those people of the change in my email address but don't want to get blocked by any ISP because there are too many invalid addresses and/or extensions.

LDAP servers are listed in most clients - but not very useful outside of business.

I do not know of a globale "white pages" for eMail. The best I can offer is methodology.

Determine the policy of your vendor (# eMails sent per hour / per day)

Choose a slightly lower number (so you can send an avg day's worth of mail)
Send to a group of recipients (either in a group or individually. Group001 might contain 100 addresses, or the To line might contain those 100 addresses)
Put all rejected msgs into a BadAddr folder
Send the next group when you won't be flagged as a marketer (spammer)

I'm not sure, but most vendors don't care about how many bad addresses are used, only the number of eMails per day or per hour (perhaps per minute)

It will take time, - groups of 100 mean 400 mailings. It might take days to inform 4000 people.
Assume a max of 1000 msgs per day - that's 10 group mailings over 4 days - you can do the math on lower or higher limits.

Do all these folks, all 4000, really need to know. If not, I would focus on the most import groups first. That eMail address from a business associate 10 years ago, probably isn't needed.

Thanks. I was just trying to qualify them before I sent them out as I thought ISPs did care about how many bounces you get. I believe services like Constant Contact and such do.

I suppose some ISPs consider bounced mail to be an issue for their service.

Contact your provider and explain what you want to do, how do they suggest going about it. They might flip a switch for you - raise the limit or temporarily turn it off.

Come to think of it, some ISP offer a "tell my contacts about my new eMail address" service.

Hey, I just Googled validate e-mail and looked at one
Verify Email Address Online - Free Email Verifier - Free Email Address Verification

So free ones do exist. Again, I don't know anything about these sites.

I know nothing about Constant Contact.

Sorry,

Bill
