Various BSOD at random

Hi guys, I'm sorry for the generic title but really: it happens at random and for the most various reason. Only this week I got:

1- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

1- KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

1- DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

I read the guide on how to begin a bsod thread and I'm attaching the result of the app I downloaded from the forum, but without the health system report cause every time I tried to launch it, I got a timeout error (literally: "an error has occured while attempting to generate the report. The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out")

Here is some info bout my system:

- Dual boot between W7 Ultimate x64 & MacOs SnowLeopard 10.6.3
- W7 was an OEM preinstalled version
- The whole system was bought on December 2009
- The last time I re-installed W7 was on December 2010 trying to get the mentioned dual boot to work properly

I'd like to add a few details that may help to solve the problems: back in 2010 I tried to dualboot my pc cause I couldn't get rid of the bsod. Various RAM and HD diagnostic tools didn't help and as long as I used the other OS I had no prob AT ALL. On March I had to get back to W7 to use some programs and after a couple of months the beloved bsod came back again. Furthermore I noticed about a month ago that the two USB3 ports on the back of my PC are no longer working: I haven't investigate this issue too much, but restoring the drivers didn't help as well as disabling / re-enabling the device. This issue together with the various bsod occured led me to think there may be some hardware faults with my MoB...but I really hope you can help me to sort out what is going on here before going through a hardware replacement!!

and again SORRY for the language initial misunderstanding :)

BSOD and random errors with different

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------

Hi all, I apologize for the generic title, but really a little captain 'random and various reasons. So far I have collected in one week:

1 - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

1 - KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

1 - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

I read the guide on how to post in these cases and leave you attached the zip with the result generated by the APA that I downloaded from the forum, but without the health report because every time I tried to run it at the end of the sixty seconds I is a timeout error (reads: "an error has occured while Attempting to generate the report. The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out")

Now some specs on my system:

- Assembled PC
- Dual boot between Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and MacOS 10.6.3 Snowleopard
- Windows 7 was preinstalled but was then later re-installed several times by me, however, the OEM version
- The system was purchased in December 2009
- The last time I re-installed Windows 7 was in December 2010 in an attempt to finalize the dual boot above

Add as a note-I remember that time I tried a dual boot system with an alternative just because exasperated by not being able to solve the problems that plagued my system bsod. Needless to say that many of the RAM that is diagnostic of HD have led to nothing and that as long as I continued to use the other operating system I have not had any problems, but after a couple of months out of necessity I had to start using Windows 7 is again in nice even blue screens. I also noticed a month or so that the two USB3 ports on the back does not work anymore: I have not thoroughly investigated the problem, but a back of drivers did not help as it did not solve the disable / reenable the device via the control panel given the generic ... random BSOD happen this led me to think that could be the motherboard to have some problems .... but I remain confident in your help to solve

Ok..I run that three times: the first two I kept using my pc while scanning and both times I got the pc to freeze and had to manually cut off power and restart. The third one I left it scanning without touching anything in the meanwhile and got it done at 100% with a result of "no corruption has been found"....

next step? :p

Run it 3 times in a row. It will USUALLY fix most common things.

Ok..I did perform the snc /scannow for 3 times and everytime I got the message: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

So I tried once more to run the health status report but when it turn to generate the report I still get this timeout error...is this something I should worry about? Doesn't seem right that a W7 component itself can't perform what it was designed for...

About new softwares I didn't install anything..but at the time I thought too it could be related to HD probs but I run various diagnostic and never found anything...btw just in cas: I just finished with a CHKDSK /R and it found nothing..so i would tend to exclude the HD..

Weird thing is that these days most of the times just as soon as I boot W7 Explorer stops working and restart itself...who knows....

Let me see if for the next couple of weeks I get any other BSOD or what ;)

Ok...I'm starting to freak out. :banghead: I just had 5 BSOD one after the other.

The first one while playing MW3 and all the other during W7 boot: I couldn't even launch the OS itself!!

Please please please...anybody who can give me any suggestion on how to solve this or at least who can help to understand where the problem is would be greatly appreciated: I'd offer you guys a beer if I only knew where to send it! :D

P.S. I don't know if it could be related but before succeeding to boot I opened the case and used some compressed air to clean the dust...maybe a temp problem?

Disk check can pass and the hard disk can still be bad. Have you run hard disk diagnostics?

Could be temperatures. Could also be corrupted memory which may indicate your memory is faulty.
  • Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).
       Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. :warn:WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:
    1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
    3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
    4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Ok..just a quick update: I didn't have the chance to run the tests you suggested in the past 2 days but THANK YOU for the detailed guide I'm gonna use as soon as I can...

Unfortunately I'm leaving tomorrow to Italy and I won't be back before July...however...in the meanwhile I tried to re-install from scratch the MoB drivers to the latest version and IT SEEMS that I got rid of the USB3 malfuction issue as well as of the BSOD issues (well actually it's only been 2 days without crashes...but so far so good...)

I'll report back as soon as I'll have some more data :)

A fresh install often will help resolve problems. That is a good troubleshooting step, so well done!

I will remain subscribed to this thread, so when you get back, post if you need help. I'll get a message when you post. :)
