Good news, the problem is now going to be somebody else's.
Futureshop (Best Buy Canada), whom I purchased it from has set it up to be exchanged even after 5 months. Apparently I'm not the first one who's had issues. I thank you again for all your help, hopefully the replacement one doesn't need so much :/
