vb6 app does not work on win 7

I have those dlls already, tried first, and got a newer version of the VBRun60sp4.EXE,

VBRun60sp6.EXE, I already said that, still does not work

I need you to run ccleaner remove all temp files, clean the regristry and make sure there are no unneeded files in the startup. Place a shortcut to Event Viewer on your desktop as well as the installer. Check EV(event viewer) before you run the install so you know about were you stand. run the installer and put all of the new errors if any in a text doc for me please

Hi, I don't know if there is a point in running any registry cleaner app on a brand new PC build, I got this one THIS morning, fresh install on all stuff, win 7 and all app on it. To be honest I suggested this to the it ops guy but he was laughing and I kind of agree with him. the event viewer shows nothing new when run the app. And the app just gives the err 732 cannot load control ... a user control created by some dev, it is the initial control, that yes it has an imagelist control in it, I checked display settings and are on 32.

Does the error msg way what the control is? Like MyListTree.ocx not found or something?

the control that could not be loaded is the first imain window tries to load and is a user control, made by some developer, that includes the search criteria, first thing that you also usually do with the app, you search

the control has only text fields + a button + this ImageList control, I saw there could be this kind of issues with it and the solution would be to set the display depth to 32 bit, but that is the case so ...

Sorry when I made that last post I was ending the end of my day the main reason for the ccleaner was to make sure any previous files from the app were gone but since you said it was a fresh install that wouldn't really be needed.

Have you tried running it in XP compat mode?

yes, I tried that will all sp and as an administrator also, no luck

I started to copy all dlls that I saw it is using in XP and can not find them in Win 7, I still have ...124 to go

I was going to suggest recompiling the source from a win 7 machine..... But god knows how long that could/would take

The reason I'm asking is to determine if you know the filename or have a chance of getting it. It's not easy to figure that out from previous posts. It stands to reason if the control is the core of the app and you don't have it, you can't run it. I just seems kind of nebulous when you say "a control written by some developer."

I see your point, and let me be more clear: the control is there and is bundled in the exe, is not outside in some ocx, I mean for half the installations is working.

And when I installed vb6 on one of the pc where was not working it start working, that, in my eyes, means there is some dll missing that comes with vb6.

I was hoping to have it also installed with runtime but not that lucky.

I also copied some they say are not present into win 7:

Still no luck, I have now prepared a bundle with less then a hundred of them I got from a list I made when I used Process Monitor to identify those used in XP by the app and not present in Win 7. Let see.

I've only dabbled in VB6 and awhile ago. But is there a dependency checker that will track down the calls external to the app? As you say it must be some module that comes with VB6 install that provides some functions. Seems like there should be a way to detect external calls. If it's not in the run-time then you would think it would attempt to load a dll or something.
