The Atto nums look very good - similar to mine. I focus only on the 4K numbers because that is the blocksize the system uses most of the time.

I am really puzzled why you get 29 seconds in Event 100. Given your gear, it should be below 20.

Looks like the drive is OK. The bottleneck is in another place.

For a test, disable all startup programs and see what that does to event 100.

What is the best way to disable them ?

You can do it in msconfig > Startup button. I use WinPatrol because it is a bit fancier.

Hold down the Windows key ( one with the flag on it) and press R key. Will bring up a run box. Type msconfig in the box and press OK. The window will appear, click the startup tab. Remember what is checked, but uncheck everything except the anti virus and windows sidebar, press OK and restart. Those are just the programs that load at startup. It does not mean you are disabling them, just they won't start on a startup.

I did disable thru WinPatrol - Manage startup programs - left only Avast and WinPatrol running.

For the test, disable Avast too. That may be the main culprit. Make sure you reenable it after the test. All the others can stay disabled for good (except those you started yourself - directly or indirectly - like sidebar as Steve says).

29415 ms this time. Not much difference.
I did disable Avast thru WinPatrol but it started on its own anyway on startup. I disabled Acronis Startup Recovery Manager.

The 29.4 sec is with Avast disabled - right? That is still too much. Enable Avast and the sudebar and leave the rest disabled. WinPatrol is your choice. It protects your registry, but you will get messages at time.

Next step would be to have a look what other processes (that do not show here) are starting. That is a bit delicate. There is a program you can run at boot that lists them all including the timing. But I forgot the name. Maybe Steve remembers.

You can run schtasks in cmd. That will list all processes that are scheduled. Maybe you see something unusual. But be careful and don't disable anything before we don't know what it is. Maybe you want to post the cmd output.

There is nothing unusual in the schtasks that I can determine.

Thanks to Steve we found Soluto. This is a good program. Have a close look at their webpage. But a word of warning. It can be a pain to uninstall it. Here are the uninstallinstruction.

If you use it, post a snip of the output.

Well I think I should remind you, I'm not too worried about the start up time as the overall performance, which appears to me to be sluggish at best.
I will run Soluto if you think it will help determine something pertaining to this.

Soluto will only tell us something about startup. That is usually my first test because you can compare apples with apples with Event 100. And your times seem to be off - not a lot, but noticeable, especially with your rig.

But what exactly do you mean by 'the overall performance, which appears to me to be sluggish'. Do programs load slowly or do they execute too slow. Is it something when you are on the internet or what ??

When I put this system together I expected to see a big difference in performance from my previous machine (HP p6720f) and I just do not see it. If it is not the SSD, then something else is not performing correctly.

Ext. HP 2311 Monitor
Yeah, but what exactly is it that does not meet your expectations.

I have 6 PCs from a 2007 duo core with 1.6GHz and 2GB of RAM to the XPS 8300 with an i7 and 8GB of RAM. All have SSDs. For most office type applications and on the internet, there is really little performance difference that I can see. My acid tests are Boot time and video encoding. With the latter you can see a BIG difference - even between the i5 and the i7 not to speak of the lesser systems.

So maybe you were expecting too much of a difference and the SSD is really OK - because the Atto numbers look fine.
