Hi guys, just like to get an opinion if i can, iv got one specific file, which i tried to scan with MSE which is making MSEeng.exe go mental, Ram usage shoots up to 95%.

every thing else i scan seems to be fine, although Ram usage goes up a little bit, nothing to write home about though,

so im thinking the file is probably suspect, and MSE is trying to submit loads of reports back to MS, does that sound plausible?

Did you try some other scanner to scan the file?? Is it a compressed file? What is the extension of it?

AFAIK, MSE's Dynamic Signature Service attempts to better identify malicious files by checking for updates if an application exhibits suspicious behavior. Before taking action against a suspect file, MSE prompts for user input. Did you get a prompt? Also, is this file an executable?

You can check if MSE is trying to go online in Windowsupdatelog.log.

Otherwise, generally speaking, this problem seems to arise if there are other conflicting security software installed, though IDK, why it should happen only with this file. Try scanning another file having the same file extension to check if the problem can be duplicated.

cheers for the feedback dre@ms, i completely forgot iv got MBAM on here, i just scanned it and it said it was infected, goodbye i think.....

Bill: well the only other security software i have, is Malwarebytes, but its only the free version so i cant see how it would conflict, there wasnt any user input, i dont know, its possible that MSE doesnt like GBI files for some reason....

Glad u r saved from the infection. As rightly said by Bill2, I believe, MSE does goto WU to look for latest updates before beginning the scan.

Anyways, one way or the other, MBAM fixed it for you.
