VERY slow recognition of USBs on my PC

This has only started happening recently. Happens on all ports and to all USBs - even brand new ones. The PC takes nearly 10 minutes to register that the USB is plugged in - the green strip at the top of the Windows page just keeps going and going.

Once it has recognised it, the USB works normally.

This doesn't happen on any other devices I use.

I've tried doing a trouble-shoot, but it made no difference.

I am not very computer literate, so please make your answers on the low side of technical. For example, I do not know how to access BIOS or what to do once I'm in there, so please give me step-by-step instructions if you can.

Any advice appreciated.

USB is a port on your computer not a device.

What USB device are you having problems with?
What are you plugging into a USB port that your system has problems recognizing.
Example:
Flash drive
external hard drive
phone
printer

Here in Australia, we call them USBs - they are data storage devices that fit into the USB ports. I have no idea what you would call them, although I think "flash drive" might be the name I've seen before. As I said - I'm not very computer literate.

I'm having trouble with any of them when I try to use them in my PC.

You say.
As I said - I'm not very computer literate.
That's okay. I just want to make sure we are on the same page talking about the same thing.

Yes most of the time we call them USB thumb drives, USB memory sticks.

Do other thing work in the USB ports 2.0 and 3.0. Like a printer or a external hard drive or external ssd?

You can use your motherboard manual to find which port is which or just look at them.
2.0 ports are black inside and 3.0 ports are blue inside.

Your motherboard has a bunch of USB ports.

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8Z77V/specifications/

Code:
ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller : *7
2 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue)
Intel® Z77 chipset : *7
4 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)
Intel® Z77 chipset :
10 x USB 2.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, black, 8 at mid-board)
Right now lets just work with the black 2.0 ports. Preferably the ones on the motherboard not on the case.
The black ports on the back of the computer.

These things I ask you to do will give us clues.
The problem is most of the time when a USB port is not recognized it's just that.
It's never recognized no matter how long you wait. Which can mean setting bios to default to updating drivers.

Did these ports ever work properly before?
