VGA cable defect or what?

sometimes the computer JUST WON'T recognize my tv as samsung display and shows only generic, and it can't see it's a widescreen so the resolution is all wrong. so i have to unplug the cable and plug in a regular 2m vga cable and then it detects it perfecly, THEN i plug the 5m cable back in and now it detects the samsung again, with correct resolution.

so my question: what the hell?!

Not all cables are made to the same high spec's. the longer the cables the more info is lost or weakened. 5m is at the length were I would consider upping the quality or do you by chance have HDMI options even with an adapter?

thats the very weird thing... i have dual dvi outputs on my geforce 260 and dvi to hdmi looks god awful, the quality is pretty bad and i've tried different hdmi cables and they look the same horrible.

the colors are all wrong, like the text for example has this weird white glow, movies look grainier etc... maybe if i buy a new GPU, maybe an AMD graphics card since my mobo is crossfire ready.

but you understood earlier right? if the computer detection screws up, like after a reboot and it no longer identifies samsung (tv) and instead just shows generic, the resolution list is all wrong, unplugging the cable and trying with a 2m instead and bang, everything back to normal good, then i can replug the 5m cable again and still maintain detection as samsung and everything works fine.

I had a this happen to me a few weeks ago when I bought some longer VGA leads, I swapped them live and everything was fine but on reboot it didn't detect my screens as samsungs and the resolution was I think something like a max of 1600xSomething instead of 2048x1152.

After a few hours of messing I noticed that all six of the newer long cables all had one pin missing - have you checked that all the pins are present in the cable?

Does the set have this firmware update?
Upgrade File(USB type) (Firmware) (ver.1016.3 / 2006.0)
Also check the pins as mentioned earlier against both cables.

Hmmm, No i haven't checked that, will do tomorrow. yah that 1600x was the same deal with mine... 2048x1152 huh? WOW that's pretty sweet, but not a tv then right? do they make tv's with higher rez than 1920x1080?

This happened to me, and it turned out to be a loose pin, not properly connected with the cable end.

I now trust three brands for me. "Cables to go," on Amazon.com, Belkin, and Monster (expensive, but worth it).
