VHS Problem

Hello guys,

Our old VHS will not display picture or sound when you press the play button. I have checked all the wires and make sure that SCART cable is plugged in correctly. It will switch to the right video channel, just won't show picture etc. Any ideas, folks?

BTW, This VHS is over 10 years old.

Yeah, it's a desperate cry from the appliance to join the rest of his kind at the local rubbish tip.

I tried all of that (clean heads and try different videos), still no difference,

Other than trying another VHS player, are you sure the tape is still good?

I think it may be time for an upgrade to DVD.

When you press "Fast Forward" can you hear the motor spin? When you press "Play" do you hear any "whirring" sound at all? I'm thinking that if you haven't used the machine for some time the control may be "sticky" A humid atmosphere will cause this and living near the sea as you do could be the cause!
All your tapes have been wound back, of course??????

Yes I can still hear it and I have tried several tapes.

How about getting on of those that can convert VHS to DVD's.
That way you can save all those movies in smaller compact place? IMO

Chances are, that given its age, the heads are worn out.

Then I an only conclude that the tape heads are duff! They can be replaced but the cost will probably be prohibitive. I would think to convert to DVD would be your best bet. Mind you , you will need a usable VHS machine or old VHS camcorder to achieve that! You can get them done commercially for about a tenner each. If you haven't got many this might be th cheapest way!
