video card & browsers

Months ago I took the PC down to a shop to replace ailing video card. Ever since i have had sessions of video card stopped working & has recovered syndrome. I never returned to the shop.

It became so unpleasant I switched to opera from firefox. and everything was fast and clean again. But now opera is diseased too with not only video card crashing & recovering but also everything to is a disaster in that with partial /delay failures its become unbearable. Just switched back to firefox today & all is running sweet. for now.

Is there any tweeking to be done. I dont want to spend $$ on another card.

Do you think it's possible that they put the old card back into the machine? Or that they installed a used (not new) video card?

Have you tried updating the drivers for the video card? An easy way to do this is with a Windows Update. Do a scan for updates, and if an update appears in the list for your video card, install only that one update. See if that fixes the video problems.

If that doesn't fix things, you could try the VEN-DEV method of finding exactly which video driver you need for the video card, and then installing that video driver. The VEN-DEV method is described in this post:

Can someone tell me if the Gygabyte Motherboard GA-EP35-DS3P (rev. 2.1) + graphics card gygabyte NVIDIA GV-N710SL-1GL are compatible?

My trouble start when this graphic card was installed.

Compatibility is determined by the type of slot you plug the card into, as well as if your computer's power supply puts out enough power to run the card.

For example, if you have a PCI Express card, and the card's connecter is the same size or smaller than the PCI Express slot you plug it into, it is compatible, as long as your power supply is putting out enough power.

If you have a lame power supply, which puts out just enough power to run the computer as it was when it was new, and you then add a power-hungry video card, you will have problems, because your computer will need more with the video card installed than the power supply is capable of putting out. But if your power supply puts out more than what you need, you are fine.

i'm illiterate on this stuff. the PS is an antec 520w.

520 watts should put out more than enough power. So the other determiner is whether there is a compatible slot on your motherboard which matches the type of connector on the card.

(In your system specs, you said that the power supply was an Antec 620. I assume that means that it puts out 620 watts. I went on the Antec website, but I couldn't find the wattage that that unit puts out. But if it puts out 620 watts, that is even better than 520 watts.)

A final detail which should be mentioned with the above two is that you will need a driver for the card which will work with Windows 7.

Of course, it goes without saying that if any one of these components is defective, the card isn't going to work properly, if at all.
