I'm sorry I have obviously you confused about what I was asking for.
1. the wattage of your power supply. If you can't find the specs on the Dell site you'll have to open the case and get it off the side of it. Also if your in their please check the voltz on the +12v rail
We'll need to know this in order to know what cards it can handle.
2. Budget.
Thanks. Fabe

Power supply specs for the Dimension 4700,

Documentation

Only good thing is that it has a PCI-E x16 slot. A $100 budget gives lots of options as far as a video card goes, unfortunately pretty much all of them require a new power supply as well. With the specs on the PSU in it (305 W) I wouldn't look at anything higher than the HD 5450-5570 from ATI or the GT 220 from Nvidia.

The requirements for Windows DVD Maker:

What are the video card system requirements in Windows DVD Maker?

appear to be the same as those to run Aero Glass effects.

There are no drivers for your Intel 915G garphics that support this.

There are all kinds of PCI-E X16 cards available that will support this. Here's a list from Newegg:

Newegg.com - Retail, PCI Express 2.1 x16, DirectX 11, DirectX 10.1, PCI Express 2.0 x16, DirectX 10, PCI Express x16, Desktop Graphics / Video Card...

(I confined it to Dx10, 10.1, and 11 cards.) Ones based on the nVidia 8400GS, GT210, or ATI Radeon HD4350 are cheap, and none of them require auxiliary power connectors. Any of them would be better than your onboard graphics. It may be pointless to get the most powerful graphics card that you can afford. You're not trying to convert a Dimension 4700 to a major gaming PC.

No, he can get any graphics card that does not require an external power source. The Radeon HD 5670 will fit his budget and does not require an external power source. It will work in his Dell Dimension without a problem.

The newer"Green Version" of the XFX 9800 gt doesn't require additional power . I know this because I received one as a replacement for one I had sent in on an RMA.It's a Little over budget but well worth it. And should be able to run on your power supply a 400w would be ideal but I think you could still get away with yours, as long as your not running a lot of additional peripherals IMO . I searched Newegg for PCIe x16/2.0/2.1 and DX 10/10.1/11, and looking thru them from lowest to highest, he doesn't need a 3D gamer card, just something to run Aero Glass. Considering his PSU and reviews of the cards listed and warranty, I would recommend these:

Newegg.com - XFX HD-545X-YNH2 Radeon HD 5450 (Cedar) 512MB 64-bit
Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGE84512GS64E GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit
Newegg.com - XFX HD-435X-UAH2 Radeon HD 4350 256MB 32-bit
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit
