Video Drivers in XP Mode

I installed XP mode and the OS seems to be working fine.

However, some software that needs video drivers to work will not load. There's a drop down list to select your driver from but the list always comes up empty.

Is there any way I can update the drivers in XP mode so that there's something on the list?

It does not work that way. All hardware seen by a virtual machine are emulated, and usually fixed. For example, the video card is fixed, so you can't change the driver. You may be able to install drivers only for USB based devices.

In order for the vm to use your driver, the vendor of the virtual machine softwware will have to emulate that video card.

Well Im happy to see my abit IP 35 pro support virtual xp mode , BUT , my main problem is :

- I have a sublimation mitsubishi printer , that doesnt want to work on Win 7 64 , there is no driver for it

May I emulate win xp 32 pro and install driver on it ????

Yes, if your printer is USB based, most likely, you can install its driver in xp mode vm.

All USB devices confirm to the same protocol, so a virtual machine can emulate them as a whole, without knowing much about the individual devices.

Impresive , it really works !!!!

I cant believe , but printer was succefully installed on virtual xp . ( mitsubishi CPD8000N0 )

I must find a light editing graphic software to test it properly .


I have and old but expensive printer a kodak one , but this works only in scsci mode , do you think that a scsci-usb adapter could may work ????

Did a little thinking. It occurred to me that it's probably impossible to make xp mode drivers for video cards in order to enable the full graphics xp is capable of. If xp is being emulated everything it does has to be processed by the cpu because it's hosted inside the operating system that actually controls the hardware. I don't think it's possible for two operating systems to control the same hardware simultaneously. So to the original OP... if you want to play your XP only games... you'll probably have to reinstall xp
