video not playing on win7

Alright, i got it to install. Does the same thing the update for the SiS chipset does through windows update... It freezes up during start-up. Am I SOL with this onboard video or what? Do I have to buy a card that has Windows 7 drivers available?

Did some research and there may be some BIOS options you can set to get past this. Can you restate exactly the behavior again? I'm unclear on:

1) Is this a clean install or upgrade? If upgrade, from what?
2) When 7 was first installed were there any problems? Could you play video?
3) Windows update found better drivers, did they install correctly?
4) It freezes during startup of the computer or Windows update?
5) When you restart, the driver reverts to VGA, correct?

Sorry for making you rehash this but if it's got drivers in the catalog it must be something else. Those drivers don't get in there by accident -- that driver is tested on the target hardware and has been shown to work. I'll bet it's an esoteric BIOS setting considering it's chipset integrated graphics.

1) This is a clean install..
2) When 7 was first installed I had sound problems (used an XP driver, cause the updated one did not work) That fixed that problem (the sound is also on board)
3)In the first updates, the one you pointed me to was included in the updates, when I rebooted, it would freeze at the start up screen with the animated windows icon (which stopped being animated)
4)Ummm.. i think I answered this question in number 3 :)
5)When I restart, it does a system restore and reverts to the generic vga driver.

About the BIOS... there was something I was unsure about when increasing the Video Shared Memory, does the Apature Size have to be increased as well?

Aperture should remain 128MB or you'll overwhelm the GART (Graphics Address Remapping Table) on the northbridge memory controller hub. You're not setting the shared memory above 256MB are you? Can you even?

What would probably help more than anything is an .nfo file -- can you open a command prompt and run msinfo32 /nfo %userprofile%\desktop\natebee.nfo and attach the file it creates on the desktop to a post here please?

Dear All members from the previous post,

The problem of wmp 12 in windows 7 not able to play vidoes and laptop freezing etc. is due to graphic property wherein hardware acceleration is set to full by default, change the setting to none. I am having desktop 915 GAG motherboard on onboard graphic, was not able to play any kind of vidoe through wmp 12, pc also freezed, then changed the hardware acceleration and set it to none, now everything works fine. Do two things: (1) Go for a windows live update from start menu (windows 7) its second or third in the menu number. (2) (this setting I did on 915 GAG Intel motherborad - so may differ on other brands ------ a) right click at destop -- screen resolutions - it will open another windows - choose advanced setting - choose troublehoot tab - then choose - change settings - in the hardware acceleration windows - set it to none. Kindly refer.

It's a problem with the XDDM Drivers, If your graphics card/chipset is not WDDM-compliant, Anything tied to DirectX would freeze the System. The only option you have is to download MPC and set it to overlay, or you can download vlc and set it on OpenGL mode
