Video playback is blurry and crappy, but through browser is okay?

So I can watch a video online, as in through a browser and it looks great. But when I play back a video locally from my hard drive it is all blurry and not sharp.

I have VLC media player installed. Maybe this has messed with codecs or something?

It plays crappy in both VLC and media player in windows 7.

How can I get my videos look right again?

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Sorry the response has been slow. Normally queries are answered very quickly but sometimes one gets missed.
What is the format of your videos you have on your PC and where did they come from?

Well it's all of them. .mov. avi. mpg etc etc

OK but what sort of Video Camera have you? I don't know of a camcorder that will produce all those formats from the same source. Indeed some of them suggest an internal hard drive on the camera and one suggests a mini tape! Are they standard definition or HD?

It's not the camera. Canon HFS100.

Was fine a few months ago. I'm thinking that a program has maybe change something.

That's a nice camera. So the files used to play OK but now they don't. Can you do a system restore to a point where they worked OK? Have you installed any new programs since they worked OK? Is your anti virus up to date?

I suspect it may have to do with Quicktime...

Don't use anti-virus, haven for about 7 years. I might try getting rid of Quicktime later tonight and see. This has happened before, I just can't remember what it was.

Then I can't help you, I'm afraid. You probably have so much malware on your system that it would need formatting and cleaning completely!

I could see that comment coming before I even posted it. System is only about 6 months old.

Well I have never had malware issues, well back in the day i did but now.....unless there is a monster in the machine that is very quiet I don't know about.

What is a free spyware/malware checker to use?

I would install and run Microsoft Security Essentials. Then to be safe Malwarebytes and CCleaner. That should keep you safe. I shouldn't joke too much about monsters in the machine Don't tempt fate!

Went to download the microsft security but I already have it, Have cclear too, and sownloaded malwarebytes.

Did a scan all clear.

OK So lets go back to the problem. I'm really interested in the source of your video files.. I know you said:

But your camera, I think saves to a card in the AVCHD Format. I have a Canon HD camcorder and it saves files as MTS. On downloading to the PC that becomes M2TS. Can you look at one of your files straight from the camera and post the file extension please?. I'm sorry but I just cannot see how your camera can save to mov, avi, mpg and others. What are the others BTW?
