Vista used to pick a frame well into the video file to generate the thumbnail. windows 7 seems to have reverted to the old XP method of picking one of the first few frames to generate the thumbnails. Now I'm stuck with black thumbnails for many videos, compared to the extremely useful ones when on Vista

Is there any fix for this problem?

Hi and welcome

did you do a clean install when going from vista to win 7? the preview in win 7 actually should flow just like the full image not be static

I actually have the same problem sometimes; for instance, I do not get a real-time thumbnail of Chrome. And I know that I did a clean install.

Thanks for the welcome, Ken J.

I should have made myself clearer. I wasn't referring to the taskbar peviews, but rather the thumbnails in the folder containing the video files, when set to thumbnail view. My install was an upgrade from Vista, would a clean install solve that problem?

Maybe, but probably not. I have the same problem from time to time, and I know I did a clean install.

This is exactly the problem I am having also. Did anybody find a solution to this problem. In Vista I used to get a thumbnail from the middle of the video or so, now with Windows 7 I get the first frame, which is black. Is there a way to change this?
