videocard fan turning on while in sleep mode

I have a computer running windows 7 32-bit that I am using as an HTPC with WMC. At night when I am done, I push the power button (sleep mode?) on the remote and it puts the computer to sleep. For some reason, the video card fan starts up at full speed at 4:30 in the morning but the computer is still in sleep mode. Can someone tell me what is causing this and can I stop it from happening. The video card is an ati x800xl.

My media machine will run it's fans while waking up to record something. I can't hear the graphics card fan itself, but I can see the fan speed in my LCD status display. From what I understand, some TV capture cards can use the GPU for encoding chores. Not really sure how that works, I just read it somewhere.
