Is it a Powerpoint show? If so you need Powerpoint or an open software equivalent like LibreOfficce or OpenOffice.

So to open the photos on the sideshow on USB I have to use the windows video maker and to edit the photos I would have to use a different program

Yes, Movie Maker or just play the video and take screen grabs. You then need a picture editing program such as Gimp or Paint.net to edit them. As I said earlier don't expect the quality to be very good.
