Hi,
I have been trying to install windows 7 but when I select the partition to install it says something like that

"it has current MBR partition table ..on EFI systems windows can only be installed on GPT"

While following the above instructions and using "OPTION 2" I get this error when I
type "convert gpt"

"Virtual disk service error"

Please advise.

Thanks for the reply Shawn.

But the issue is that I can't even have the option to enable 'UEFI BOOT'.

I only have a boot priority listed in the 'BOOT TAB' of BIOS.

Can you please suggest a way to enable UEFI BOOT.

Regards,
Bilal

I only did my one and only UEFI install a few days ago so I have only limited experience.

What media are you using to install Windows from? (only dvd or fat32 formatted USB's can be used)

I am using DVD and getting same issues for installing Windows 7 and Windows 8. Would appreciate if you could share your experience.

Cheers,

When you fire up the machine if you press the boot menu button (normally F8 or F11) rather than going into the bios do you get UEFI listed next to your dvd drive?

EFI may be disabled by a setting called "Legacy BIOS." On some mobos if that is enabled then the EFI Boot disk does not show up in BIOS Boot order. Look for that or any other EFI settings in all of your BIOS menus, including the BIOS boot order.

Next read your Manual on the Support Downloads webpage for your mobo or PC model. If EFI choices still aren't clear then try proceeding with this general install troubleshooting regimen which also assures EFI is fully disabled if it has an EFI BIOS

Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.:
