Virtual Memory

SFY. The mockery of it all.

Welcome aboard, Archangel. You could put some us into ignore mode.

H2SO4 is right on the money. Except for extreme conditions that you are not likely to encounter, you will not notice a difference. The fact remains, the paging file will perform optimally spread across several volumes.

In fact, if you do ever actually notice anything about your page file, it will be the result of another fundamental problem.

Let Windows do what it does, you do what you do, and enjoy Windows 7.

Virtual memory settings

A good setting for virtual memory is the commit/charge that is listed under the performance tab in the task manager. You want to use the minimum and the maximum size to set your virtual memory. Using letting window manage the size will actually decrease the performance. The maximum size is best determined when running all the programs you would usually use.. then look at the maximum commit/charge .. .this would be the best setting. You can always try running no virtual memory for better performance, but remember windows will not be able to make a crash dump file (not necessarily needed except for troubleshooting things like blue screen error messages) since virtual memory is needed to create the dump file ...

I have found in XP-PRO and Windows 7 that just let the operating system handle the virtual memory. On paper changing this will speed up your computer but my eyes can't see it. I just use a lot of ram.
