My PC:
Windows 7-64 Professional + MS XP Mode
Lenovo ThinkCentre M83, Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM 12GB, Avast, Firefox

Win XP mode installed on Win 7-64, was working OK until today.

Today, why I do not know, it started minimized. I cannot switch to XP Mode from task bar, using Alt-TAB or Task Manager. So I cannot shut it down. When I force shutdown from task manager or by shuting down Win 7, it goes to hibernation.

When started again, runs minimized again.

Right cliking on "Windows XP Mode" icon and trying properties, makes properties window running minimized as well. The same with properties of "Windows Virtual PC".

How to get XP mode fixed?
Please help.

Hi Stone Age, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You can force any Windows Virtual PC virtual machine (including XP Mode) to reboot by manually deleting the hibernation file:
  • Close XP Mode
  • Browse to C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines
  • Delete the XP Mode saved state file (hibernation file) Windows XP Mode.vsv
  • Launch XP Mode. It will now perform a normal, clean boot
Notice that AppData is a protected and hidden system folder. In order to browse to it you need first to enable showing hidden files and folders in Control Panel > Folder Options. Altetrnatively you can open the file explorer and type %localappdata% which will take you directly to AppData\Local folder and then browse to Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines folder.

Thank you kindly.

I found the file and renamed it and started XP.
XP mode created new vsv file, but nothing have changed in XP behavior.
My XP Mode remains stuck minimized.
Any other ideas?:(
