Kaspersky tells me there is a 2 viruses in my Document and Settings and I have tried there and in USERS/All users, etc and it to is ACCESS IS DENIED and I want to confirm that Kaspersky DID delete all traces of that virus.
HOW do I get this get to these folder to check? Ask my mother or my priest for permission to access my own computer that i bought and paid for. Of course I am misguided as i believe that I should have access to my own computer.

But don't want to get started on my rant about Microsoft 7 and "permissions" and "access" to my computers. the ole "pay us but don't expect any access"

anyone know how to get around this madness?

Documents and Settings are not actual locations, They are redirects to the Users/Profilename.
Do not try and take access rights to Documents and settings, there is nothing there and you will only mess up your system.

The virus path is going to be in Users\Profilename

There is a reason for that, if you want full access, you can have it, just don't complain when things go wrong.
If you don't wish to understand why, then go buy a mac or get linux and have a nice day.
Oh wait, that's right, they do very similar things, nope, you can't escape access rights.

You should find out why it is the way it is, rather than ranting about it.

Note: that information is posted all over this forum.

I Find your reply a waste of my time and cycles

as I know Doc And Settings Are links to the Users folder And stated such with a slash and said I tried both. The QUESTION was How To get access and I dont see that answered in your response but only a defense to Microsoft's decision to post "Access denied" on most of my PC to PC sharing etc on my OWN Network. If you dont believe this is a real issue 'search' on it and see how many understand it or how to get around. I know why they do it as my computers has been my profession and predates Microsoft, Bill Gate and most likely you if you are under 55 yo.

But, there is hardly anyone that knows how to get around this new access issue of windows 7 as Microsoft will not help OEM OS's, etc nor will HP anymore without a credit card to enhance profits.

ALL I want to know now is HOW TO GET ACCESS TO GET RID OF A VIRUS IN WIN 7 NOW.

Is that too much to ask of this forum? I can't believe there is not some nice person that does not have the answer but did not find any effective answers on searching but to get to it via the USER folder but it says: "Access is denied"

Jagman..
I suggest that you Ratchet down the retoric and then go and get malwarebytes.
It should get rid of the virus. It might take booting into safe mode but there is a good possibility of it getting rid of it. Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download is their web site. they have a free one and a paid one.

Reading the prior messages also talks about pointers or redirects which is also true.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
Malwarebytes

Thanks for the suggestion but I use Malwarebytes Pro, no viruses, the free version? no virus but because Firefox was going crazy with redirects, Windows 7 on my new HP laptop failing to boot unless repaired it, I thought would try Kaspersky online scanner but it is unavailable and now is a download and I have had success before and it found lots of viruses. Which brings me up to this post. The viruses are labeled as being in Doc and Settings and want to manually access to see if Kasperskt got it or can Kaspersky get access any better than I. Am I aggravated with this inability to get rid of a discovered virus with access problems I fight every day? YES

Do you have a dedicated resident anti virus onboard? MBAM is an antimalware scanner, Kaspersky is an anti virus - two different products. An antimalware scanner is designed to specially to seek out malware and not viruses and vice versa. Download a trial verison of Kaspersky, update it and run a full scan on your system, then do the same with MBAM but set it to quick scan - just ensure it is fully updated prior to use with the latest databases. If this fails then a rootkit may be present such as TDSS. In this case I would seek help at a ASAP/UNITE related forum regarding removal.

Open a command prompt it should be at:
C:\Users\<your user name>
Type dir /al
Type CD\
You will be at C:\
Type dir /al
These will list all the Junctions and Symbolic links and where the real folder is located for each.

You can go there to look for the files you want.

What will also help with that command is

Code:
dir /al > c:\users\profilename\desktop\junctions.txt
good info pbcopter, not something i thought about in a while, I don't play around with junctions and symbolic links, I think they are messy. Also, why I hate libraries.
