Directions only for Simono -

Before you install the driver, go to device manager.

Under system devices, should be something that says CPU to AGP controller, possibly preceded by your chipset manufacturer's name. For instance, mine is "Via CPU to AGP controller."

Right click on that and choose update driver software. Then browse my computer. Then let me pick. Choose PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge. Then next and let it install.

Now install the video card driver as before, using my .inf.

If it works, wonderful. If not, revert the CPU to AGP bridge back to the default that it was. Good luck.

Also before doing that Simono, make sure you only have one monitor plugged in as you boot. Perhaps it is temporarily messing up, placing your desktop on another monitor or something. Also, go into bios and completely disable the onboard video.

I enjoy helping when I can. Makes me feel like I did something for the day. Nope. Not MCSE. Never took a course or anything. Just self taught since the early 80s since the Texas Instruments and Commodore days. If anyone has an I.T. position open for me in NY, I'm listening. lol

Hi torrentg
I tried the above instructions and the driver that it loaded said AMD 760G. Windows would not boot and I had to use "last known"

If I download the AMD catalyst I am concerned that there may be an issue because it says windows 7 but my card is an HD3650 AGP. Amd does not support any AGP cards. When I go to Visiontek their catalyst only lists Vista even though their notes state that it supports seven.
I tried to install the AMD catalyst and it said it installed correctly but it did not.
Should I try your above mentioned technique with the AMD catalyst and see what happens? Should I use the same driver you put on Rapidshare? My Hardware ID is 9596

Hey dnr53. Yeah, AMD supports their AGP cards. Normally, you would download the hotfix driver listed. I found since a few months now though that the hotfix version is no longer necessary. I installed the last 3 or 4 Catalyst drivers as non-hotfix, regular versions, only adding my card to the .inf. Everything has been working great for a while here.

I have seen the latest AGP hotfix drivers and obviously the latest regular ones too. Neither include the 3650 AGP so that's why you need to use an edited inf.

You have two choices. Either use the Vista driver that Visiontek is providing. Or you can try to get the Windows 7 9.9 Catalyst working.

I don't know why it said AMD 760G. Are you sure your hardware id is correct? Anyhow, place this new .inf inside the 9.9 extracted folder, over the old one. The only id in the whole inf is for your card if it's 9596.

Here ya go:

RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

For anyone else following this thread and with this card, all you need to do is add the following line under [ATI.Mfg.NTx86.6.0] section in the .inf, for any Catalyst version you download.

"ATI Radeon HD 3650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596

Upon further thought dnr53, I believe I realized what happened. The AMD 760G is onboard video, on the motherboard. I suspect that you are choosing that in the device manager to update instead of the AGP card.

Either way, I'd disable the onboard video in the motherbpard bios, then proceed.

Hi torrntg
I believe we have it working! I had the black screen but I changed the high contrast black to windows 7 and I have a regular screen. I can get the resolution up to 1280x1024 and aero is working.
Thank you very much more going over and above. I belong to many windows 7 blogs, websites and technet and I am very excited to have found sevenforums. Will recommend this site to anyone.
Thank you again,
Doug

I also have been having the same issue but with a ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card on Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit).

Alright, I'm gonna drop my question bombs here and hope that you guys know of something that I don't. Here's my specs that you need to know.

Mobo: MSI K82-NEO 2 Platinum, which uses the nForce3 chipset.
CPU: AMD OPTERON 180 X2, dual core @ 2.4
GPU: Powercolor ATI HD 3850 AGP.

Now i'm aware that ATI is horrible when it comes to support for their AGP cards and 99% of the time, we need to go into the .inf and add our vendor ID. My issue is that adding my vendor ID doesn't work. I can install the drivers, and 7 will then recognize that I do in fact have a ATI HD 3850 AGP in my system but it doesn't use those drivers. It uses whatever generic ones 7 comes with so i'm stuck with a screwed up resolution and absolutely zero gaming. I've read that there's a big issue with the nForce3/2 chipsets and Windows 7. Mainly that those chipsets haven't been supported since XP. Do you guys have any ideas or maybe know of a new driver for that chipset that'll allow me to fully function within 7? Otherwise it's pretty sad that i've gotta go blow a couple hundred just to build a new rig when this one does what I want, when I need it to. Thanks ahead!!

I noticed that the corrected file that you gave me doesn't work with the file file from the physical ati website. They have different numbers. but the one you wrote fromt he guru website should possulby match up with the numbers on the .inf file that you wrote correct?

Hey Dlopez. This is what ya should do:

Download the 9.9 Catalyst for your card. Run the .exe and let it extract to c:\Ati...

Close the installer. Navigate to the driver folder that has the infs. You want the one with CL in it's name. Open it in notepad.

Add the following line under [ATI.Mfg.NTx86.6.0] section

"ATI Radeon HD 3650 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV630, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596

Save the .inf.

Now go into device manager, right click on your card, choose update driver. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Now find the CL .inf you edited and saved. If it says the driver is unsigned, tell it to install anyway.

After the driver installs well, you can go to where you orginally extracted to and run the setup.exe to get the CCC installed.

Let me know how this goes for ya. Post a screenshot of the device manager if and when you run into problems.

did as you said. copied/pasted then searched and installed. the only thing i did was let the cpu reset before installing the ccc? yet again i recieved the black screen then after that my cpu shut down. should i have ran the ccc setup first before restart or is this other failure somewhere else? it worked fine on both vista and xp. sort of confused as to why i'm having so much problem with it on 7
