Visiontek HD3650 AGP 1GB compatible with Windows7 SP!?

I wonder if this is a compatibility issue or not. Please help.

I just got the HD3650 1GB AGP card and tried to install it onto my windows 7 box of a pentium 4 with 2 GB memory, SP1. I encounted tons of problem. I did the installation according to the instructions on the CD that came with the package. During the installaion, no error messages were displayed.
The problems are
1. After re-booting the computer, it indicated that no AMD driver was installed or the AMD driver was not functioning. I was urged to install the appropriate driver again. I updated the driver by downloading it from your website, but it did not help. The same message came up after re-booting. Every time when I turned on my computer, I got the same message.
2. In the Computer/Porperty/Device Manager/Display Adapter/General, it displayed "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problem, code 43.
3. In the driver tab, it displayed the driver version 8.850.0.0, the newest vesion.
4. In the resurce tab, it indicated that this device did not use any resource because it has a problem.
5. Could not performed color calibration because windows could not determined it monitor was mirrored. I did not happened with my previous card.
6 Could not install my monitor driver. Iis a Samsung Monitor. Never happened before.
7. Could not get 1680x1050 resolution.
8. When I played a game, it indicateds " Hardware acceleration is either disable or not supported by your video card driver. It was on.
If I could not get these problems resolved, I have to return this card which is not a low-end card.

cmjone, welcome to the Seven Forums.

With an AMD AGP card you need to use the AGP hotfix driver,

AMD Catalyst

It would also help to know the full make and model of the motherboard. You will also need a working AGP driver (part of the chipset, not part of the video card driver) for the video card driver to install and work properly. Depending on which chipset is on the motherboard there are times where it takes using the last XP (or Vista if one is available) driver to gets things working, as the native one in Windows 7 doesn't always work out (it is more of a generic driver than chipset specific).

Thank you for replying. I have already applied the hot-fix you recommended to no avail. The mother board is MSI 648 Max.The chipset is Sis648 which supports the AGP 8/4. I know that the motherboard manufacturer has a driver for for this chipset for XP. I upgraded XP directly to Windows 7 with a clean install. However, I did not load any Windows 7 chipset driver for this chipset. Windows 7 might not accept a XP driver. I am sure the manufacturer has no driver of this chipset for Windows 7. Any hope besides returning the card to the vendor?

Did you check Device Manager to see if there are any unknown devices? If you find one, see if you can update it with the SiS AGP .inf from the chipset driver package from MSI.

Let's try this (worked for me on an old AMD socket A AGP (Sis 746) system with an old 9800 Pro),

1. Go here, SiS - Welcom to Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation. and download the XP AGP/GART driver.

2. If showing in Programs and Features, uninstall the ATI driver.

3. Install the SiS AGP driver and after restarting run Windows Update. If it offers a SiS AGP driver, install it and restart if necessary.

4. Now install the ATI AGP hotfix driver.

That should get it to the point where the video card driver will install and work properly.

Hello Everyone who has helped.
I think I have reached a dead end if I still want to use any AGP cards in this computer. I looked under device manager and no AGP was listed. I went ahead and installed the AGP driver from SIS. The installation was uneventful until I rebooted the computer. I got a blue screen of dead. To make the computer to work again, I allowed Windows 7 to go back to the previous restore point. That meant no active AGP port. What do you guy think?
