Visiting Australia

"I feel a thread coming on.... "
I thought I'd start one. Hoping for input from Australian members.
I've been fortunate to travel and live in different parts of the world. Living there for a while is best because you get a real feel for the cultural differences.
Australia is unique but suffers the tyranny of distance. It's size is 7,692,024 km² which just a little smaller than the USA coming in at 9,826,675 km². Population of the US ~ 314 million; population of Australia ~ 23 million. Our indigenous aboriginal population have lived on this continent for ~40,000 years!
We are also quite distant from the US and Europe but very close to our Asia/Pacific neighbors.

Still bring your money and pay a visit.

Yes well mate originally from England - please not the UK or a Brit and living here (naturalised and probably past your eyes by the sun by now LOL!!) for longer than I lived in England am more Aussie than English I suppose.
I now have Aussie relatives - my two grandchildren and theirs and having been back recently and seen what it is like now - can say it was the best move I ever made.

Yep come and spend the money folks the dollar is going down now so it won't be so expensive

Fortunate to have met some of you when my ship docked in Freemantle, but like always quick discharge and off to the next port of call.

Also have passed through Sydney and Melbourne on flights during my travels.

This was my first experience of being at sea when I was all of 13 months

My ship also went via Freemantle when I was 10 except we stayed and ended up living in Brisbane, Queensland. From 24 I've lived/worked in many states inc the ACT plus overseas - a gypsy at heart.
I've never heard a negative statement from a tourist visiting Australia. I think although we are an advanced country, Americans may see us culturally as a snapshot of them 30 years ago.

Yep we touched down in '78 and came out into a VERY hot 21C Sydney LOL!! but have no regrets - always wondered why some don't like it here.

Personally I couldn't live back in the old country too darn claustrophobic
