Working on an HP dv6000 laptop. The user's DVD quit working so he bought a new one and I hooked it up. After rebooting Vista threw a driver error. I checked Device Manager and noticed a Code (10) on the DVD device. I opened Regedit and removed upper and lower filters and rebooted; same error. I got another DVD drive from the shelf and plugged it in and got the same error.

Vista is not recognizing any DVD drive I plug into this laptop. BIOS recognizes it. Does this sound like a motherboard problem or is it wipe and reload time?

Thanks.

Thanks for the help. However, that did not solve the issue. It looks like a bad IDE port on the motherboard.
