have been successfully using Win-7 Pro 64 bit on three separate computers with the older Vista sidebar installed. (See Mark’s post dated 11-18-2008 “How to Reinstate the Vista Sidebar on Windows 7)
My sidebar holds only a few simple gadgets (date, weather, time, status, shutdown/restart/hibernate etc.). I have been unable to find their exact Win 7 gadget replacements and really prefer the Vista sidebar look over the Win 7 alternative. Over time of course, I have grown accustomed to my custom sidebar display for quick dynamically information as I work. The gadgets are always in the same location for quick inspection regardless of my application(s) or which screen has the focus. They are always on top and large enough for even us older guys to see.
Then came the SP1 update earlier this week and the once loved sidebar looks a mess. Only a few of the gadgets are displayed. Many are smaller and they do not auto adjust for stacked placement. Some also appear graphically truncated either on the top or bottom and the Windows Sidebar icon in the notification area of the taskbar is missing.
Restore points are a wonderful thing to get your box back to the last know good condition. My beloved sidebar is back to normal but without SP1.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues and has any thoughts, suggestions or solutions. Do you think a Win-7 SP1 machine can support the older Vista sidebar?

Personally, I would choose SP1 over sidebar, but just personal choice.
Did you know the changes made by SP1 are nominal, if you keep your updates timely. SP1 gives all the past updates with a few minor improvements.
Set your updater to notify. When SP1 comes in, right click and then hide. You will not get it again, but can install at will.
The wait a while it may be a bug that they will fix, then you can install.
