Hi all,
First off I'm really annoied that I am here asking for help but I'm glad that you guys are here to help me through it.
Right first off I've never really had too many problems doing upgrades etc but this ones got me.
I have just tried to install Windows 7 Home Premium in 32 bit.
Went through all the install process required for the upgrade.
I did take a capture of vista which stupidly I left on the desktop.
But I did do a download copy of the c drive onto a spare hd.
Ok well I got to the end and then got a message
" windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation"
???????????????????
Any way restarted a few time and still the same window flashes up.
I then went back and tried through the install disk.
It starts off fine.
I get the install window and press next to start.
I then press the install now button.
"set up is starting"
I accept the licence terms and click next.
I then click "upgrade"
Then it tells me
"the computer started using the windows installation disk. remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that windows starts normally. then insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade(do notselect"custom(advanced)" to perform an upgrade."custom(advanced) installs a new copy of windows and deleted your programs and settings.)

I'm now stuck in limbo

If I click the repair computer button I get on to te recovery options.
It gives we two operating systems to choose from.
windows 7 and
windows setup

no VISTA listed

any suggestions

Dave

As you are finding, an Upgrade install can only be run from the old O.S.

Since booting into the Win7 installer Repair console finds an OS (Windows 7) to repair, highlight it and click through to Startup Repair, run 3 times in case there are multiple issues to fix. If it fails to restart after a fix is applied, boot back into Repair and run it again.

If you can get Win7 started up, try running the Upgrade from its desktop.

If this fails after repeated tries, your only option may be to boot from the Installer and do a Custom clean install. I suggest you wipe and format the disk using Custom>Advanced tools.

Let us know what you find.
