I updated my VLC into the 2.1.2 version, but then all of a sudden it wasn't playing DVDs like it use to do. Then just recently, I uninstalled it and reinstalled VLC; sadly, the same problem applies. The message that appears is the following:

Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///D:\'. Check the log for details.

Could someone help me fix this problem?

1. What does the log say.

2. If you uninstall VLC, use the Revo uninstaller (advanced options). If you use the Windows uninstaller, the registry entries and files are not completely removed and a new install picks them up - thus you have the same trouble as before.

How do I check the log? It always says to check it, but where it is exactly?

And I used Windows uninstaller via the control panel.

Hi there
Just re-install - that normally fixes any problem -- another issue might be the sort of DVD you are trying to play -- it might be you have to OPEN FILE / FOLDER instead of opening the DISC -- particularly if you have used things like DVD RAM discs (ofen from Panasonic / Toshiba camcorders / DVD video recorders etc).

Normally VLC gives no problems at all on virtually every known codec in the entire universe.

Cheers

Like I said above, I did do a reinstall and it was the same. It was after the new update, which makes me wonder if the update has o do with it. Should I try that revo uninstaller?
