What version of VLC player are you using? I think the latest version is 2.01 at the moment. Please update your VLC media player and see if that solves your issue.

Try the KMPlayer. I consider it better than VLC. It play everything. The 64-bit version can be downloaded from http://www.x64bitdownload.com/downloads/t-64-bit-kmplayer-download-qfzcyuju.html

LOL, I was reading the first post or two, and was thinking exactly that.

I use the K-Lite Codec Pack on mine, and have for years.

I set its attributes to WMP, and there's literally nothing it won't play.

For the two or three clips it won't play, the K-Lite player usually will.

And it works nicely in 64-bit Win 7.

VLC doesn't have the prevalence of codec malfunctions and errors like K-Lite has. I would stick with the dependable software myself.

I downgraded back from v2.0 to a previous version, though, as its installation made videos play in an embedded vlc player in firefox no matter what settings were changed within firefox to prevent it. I didn't like it overtaking firefox like that.

You could always remove or disable the VLC plugin for FireFox.

Why should I have to disable or remove the plugin for it to not be obstructive in this version when it's always worked fine until this release? I've always enabled the plug-in but only had it play .flv, .divx, or .mkv files that weren't natively supported by WMP. For whatever reason when I upgraded, it played every single movie file, no matter what was changed in the Content settings of Firefox or what the default players for the movie files were. Something definitely went awry with v2.0.

Personally, I've had no issues with K-Lite in over five years of use, apart
from the fact that it won't work well with Super C file converter.

Well, K-Kite works fine, but it kills Super C.

TMPGEnc fixed that.

No other issues (touch wood).

Same here. VLC's 2.0 and 2.0.1 versions audio continue to stutter. I tried all suggested options posted here in the forum and on other web sites but no joy. V1.1.11 works fine. I'll give KMplayer a try today and see what happens.

Yesterday I restored a previous image with only Windows, MSOffice and security programs. But I aml not yet sure if I want to install the KMPlayer. VLC is totally out..

The latest version of the KMPlayer is having a small glitch. Very often it does not play a movie file if I try to play it by clicking on the file, instead the computer either freezes or reverts to VGA display. I have to open the the file from the KMPlayer Menu to play it properly.

Perhaps I shall install the KMPlayer in the safe mode to see if that cures the malaise. In meantime suggestions about trying something other that VLC, WMP and KMPlayer are most welcome.

PS: I installed the KMPlayer in the Safe Mode. It plays great there but without sound because the Audio Drivers don't get loaded in the Safe Mode.

Went back to the normal mode and the same problem occurred. But I found that the fault was not with the KMPlayer but with my 7 year old video driver. The driver is non-compatible with Window 7 and I am running it in XP SP3 Compatible mode. It is sometimes unable to cope with the new version 3.1.0 of the KMPlayer if I click on a movie file instead of opening it from inside the KMPlayer.

I installed KMplayer. It works OK but the video quality is not as sharp as VLC's. I don't have driver issues. Maybe needs settings adjusted correctly. Will keep for a while but will continue to try VLC as new updates come out.

Other suggestions you may also try with your driver issues are:

GOM Media Player GOM Media Player - The only video player you need. Download for Free!
or
SUPER SUPER &copy - Media File Converter, Media File Encoder, Video Player, Audio Player, Media Player

Both are listed in Brink's "Free Great Programs for Windows 7" thread in this forum. I did not try them since KM works for me as a temporary solution to VLC's problem but maybe they will work for you.

Thank you, Manigue. I have just downloaded and tried GOM Media Player. Prima facie it appears to be an excellent program.
