Solved VLC question

I sometimes use VLC. Each time it starts, it says: 'The color scheme has been changed to windows 7 basic'. Is that only by me or is that generally the case.

WHS, that seems to be a common bug in windows for streaming, gaming, etc. Look at this thread for A Guys solution

I also think it has something to do with TDR. While it is not crashing or giving the driver stopped and recovered error, I think it starts from the same windows functions. Some only get the switching to basic pop up and for others it leads to BSOD. Look at Solarstarshines post regarding TDR.

Dude, Bill is right. If you set it to 'Best Performance', the color does not change. But then you are in Windows basic all the time anyhow and have to work with a different skin.

Yes, I agree. I feel if you know your computer has enough resources you can just click ignore and keep my settings.

It just sparks my interest because it's a problem that's been showing since vista.

i would try a different media player and save messing about.
i fully recommend splash player. maybe give the trial a spin and see what you think wolfgang.

you wont see any nonsense about color shcemes

i rarely offer an alternate software to fix a problem i usually seek a fix when offering help,
i use splash player pro and wont entertain another player now. i have used quite a few.

Julian, as I said, it is not really a problem. I have plenty of other players. I use VLC rarely. Mostely when I want to make pictures from a video clip. In VLC that is very convenient and works well.

Keith, I wonder what's different on your system.

Mine plays fine with no messages, although it is a bland grayish/white-ish looking color, but it doesn`t change or give me a message. I`m using version 2.0.5. Maybe try using the skinned version and see what happens. It`s right there in the start menu with it.

Brian, there is not really a noticable color difference. I was just curious why it would switch - especially on my pretty powerful Dell XPS 8300 desktop. It does not do that on lesser Toshiba laptop.

That's the same skin I have. But I do not have said button.

Gary, I have not yet figured out why it changes the color scheme on my desktop but not on my laptop - same video. It is not really that important. But as you know me, it got my attention and I like to know what the reason is.

I think he wanted to show me an easy way to take a picture from a video - because I had mentioned that I use VLC only when I want to get pics from my videos. And, of course, I also use it in Linux. But there it does not change the color scheme - on the same PC. Go figure.
