I have Windows Vista installed in my host system and installed Windows server 2008 trail pack as virtual machine, after the server installation I clone the server 2008 virtual machine. When I ping my host from virtual machine I’m able to ping. But from my host system I’m not able to ping VMs, also from one VM to another. I’m using NAT configuration in VMware workstation and the configuration is as follows.
VMWare Workstation V 6.5.3
Host IP address: 192.168.206.1
VM Network: VMnet 8: 192.168.206.0 /24
VM 1: 192.168.206.130
VM 2: 192.168.206.131
NA T gateway: 192.168.206.2
Subnet is: 255.255.255.0
I’m using DHCP configuration for both VMs and Manual or static configuration for Host system. I tried enabling VMware bridge protocol in Host Network IP version 4 properties.
Please help.:)

What anti virus/Fire wall are you running?
Most of the newer ones have an allow VM pass-through you have to enable.

With the built in Fire-Wall's I have had to manually add the vm software to the Fire-Wall's allow list.

Okay, can you ping the host from the guest?
Do you have vmtools installed on the guest?
If i may ask are you running vista x64?
Cause there known issues with vista x64.

I can ping from guest top host only when I disable the firewall in guest O/S (Windows server 2008), I haven't installed windows tools in guest O/S. Also I have installed Vista home premium 32 bit edition in host. I want to ping from guest to host without disableing fireall fully, or I want to allow only VMNAT.

Hope you can help with these informations:).

Why are you using NAT, NAT will translate the address and address a seperate VLAN from the other workstation.

I use bridged on mine, my VM's consist of Server 2003 ENT (DC), and 2 XP workstations.

I used the NAT on mine and had issues with them talking accross seperate VLANS, try bridged and see what happens.
