Hi,
Im new to this forum. I have been using my built in voice recorder for awhile with no problems. However, the last time I used it the volume was dismally low, I literally need to hook up an external speaker to hear it. The sound settings are at their highest and the only change I made on the computer since the time before was that I updated my old Internet Explorer to V9 and I downloaded an Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus/spyware. Could that have messed with my voice recorder recording volume? Has anyone experienced something similar and how to fix this?
Thanks,
Judy from San Diego

Hi Judy,

It is possible that a Microsoft update (Internet Explorer, Microsoft Security Essentials or other) may have triggered the 'microphone issue'. However, would suggest you to update the 'audio drivers' and check for any pending 'Windows Updates'.

Please follow the steps listed below:
1. Run the 'Microsoft Fixit' How to Troubleshoot Microphone Issues to check if 'Windows' can fix the issue automatically.

2. Update 'Audio drivers': Click Support for Home Users | Dell US > Enter 'System Service Tag' and 'Submit' > Default 'Search Results' are listed for 'Windows 7 64 bit Operating system' > Locate and Expand 'Audio Category' > Download and install the 'Audio driver' for the 'sound card' installed in the laptop (Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installation) > Restart the notebook and recheck results.

3. Refer to this article to install all 'Windows Updates' and check results: Install Windows updates in Windows 7

Hope this helps. If the issue persists, we may have to work with the 'Microphone Properties'. Do reply with the findings; will take it forward.
