Hello all, first post here (of many probably, heh).

Whenever I startup into W7 my volume is always at maximum, anyone else encountered this? I did a quick search but only founf issues related to low volume, 50% volume and sound card driver issues etc... I would love to here your thoughts on my maximum volume issue, cheers

RESOLVED: installed BETA driver & CCL posted below by bansh (must have both installed)

Id say check what level your volume is at when you shutdown/restart your computer, and see if it boots to the same level or to 50%, second, make sure your sound drivers are up to date.

You have a clean install of your Win 7 version or you updated once or several times?

I adjust the volume after I hear the logon sound and have it around 30-40% from then until I shutdown. This is from a fresh install of Windows 7 build 7100 32 bit on a clean HDD, not upgraded, I never used the BETA.

My soundcard is an X-Fi Xtreme Music which I know have caused issues but playing music/games etc it is fine, just the initial volume is maxed.

Ok, i have exactly the same sound card. No problems for me :D
Is any other sound scheme saved for you after you were rebooting? Maybe just disable the logong sound and try again? :D

Going now to make some tests in case of your problem. maybe i can reproduce the problem.

What driver are you using? And what Creative Console Version?

Waiting for response, so i can try to make more suggestions :p

Almost sounds like the driver is getting installed every time you start the computer, as at least for me that is the only time I get what you are describing (87% actually, what made them pick that level is anyone's guess). Another guess is that there is something else running/loading that is returning your computer to the same state it was when you installed the X-Fi drivers.

Thought of that but it doesn't really solve the problem, actually I might forget to lower the volume and kill my ears with music when I start up Winamp hehhe :p

I installed the driver only for my sound card, the driver CD didn't load but I think I found a driver through these forums and installed it, even though I think it did not include support for the Xtreme Music card.

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Series Beta Driver 2.18.0013
Creative Console Launcher 2.61.09

Are both Version that i have installed and no problems with! :)

Use the creative.com website and give them a try!
Installing these seems to have fixed my issue. I removed whatever driver I was already using and installed the BETA driver, restarted and found the volume to still be at maximum. Once I installed the CCL, adjusted the volume and restarted, the volume was still set at what it was when I shutdown.

Awesome, cheers bansh
