Volume level keeps resetting to 30%

I'm at the end of my rope with my volume issue. I'm running Win 7 64 Pro with a Creative X-FI Gamer card (latest drivers).

The issue: Master volume keeps resetting to 30%. Noticed it happens when I bring my PC out of standby, and when I run certain apps like Creative's sound panel. I've tried the "Do Nothing" option on the Comms tab, and also tried unchecking the Exclusive Mode options which give apps direct control over the sound card. Nothing works.

Is there a way to set the master volume in the registry and/or create a task which runs periodically to adjust the volume to where I want it? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

This is usually a function of a corrupted driver or some other application "taking over" the sound card's volume control. However, I've seen this problem on some older Dell's with SoundBlaster sound cards and that turned out to be a BIOS problem. Clearing the BIOS fixed the old Dell PC problem.

I am having the same issue (volume spontaneously resetting to 30%) and have the same sound card. For me it will reset every few minutes. I've been running win7 for a month or so, but the problem only started in the past few days.

Anyone had luck resolving this problem?

Good point!

A few years ago, Real Audio would do this, it was always installed as a task bar "tray" applet and would sometimes change the soundcard's volume to it's master volume setting.

Also, if your audio card has it's own dedicated mixer it's possible the Microsoft mixer is not reflecting the same settings and resets the volume.

Look for any process running in the background that could affect audio.

just registered to revive this... more than two years later, i'm having the same issue. creative x-fi here as well (Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional), so it's definitely creative's fault. just wanted to let you know. still looking for a solution though - open for suggestions ;)

Alright, just registered to revive this once again! I have a solution that has worked for me in the past.

Make sure your volume is at 100% (or whatever fixed level you want it at) and open your Creative Console Launcher (doesn't matter which mode, whatever you use) and go to "Settings". Click on the "Encoder" tab. Check the box to Enable Dolby Digital Live. Any sound or video playing might glitch out a little when you do this. Uncheck the box and voila, the volume level should now stay locked coming out of sleep or on a reboot. It may start reverting to 30% again if you switch between Creative Console Modes a few times, but I stay in Game Mode 100% of the time so it has not been an issue for me!

Hope this helps someone in this thread!
