Volume turns down by itself

I have no idea why, but the volume turns down by itself. I always keep it at 50, but the thing drops to 48, then 46, and then lower and so on. Is there any explanation for this?

What keyboard are you using? Does it have volume buttons? I've seen bad keyboard drivers do that on 7.

try checking Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Audio properties>Communications tab>select Do Nothing from the dropdown box. Apply & OK.

Im having a similar problem, but much more intense. Sometimes the sound fluctuates to intense loud volumes, and not even the lowest settings on the speaker's knob can quiet it. Other times it drops to near nothing. The problem is that it happens all the time, so I can't enjoy music or other sound, for fear of blowing out my eardrums. I have tried kucing13's suggestion before, and it did not solve the problem.

I think the sound fluctuations have something to do with my 5.1 surround sound system I have. Right now only two speakers and the bass work, even though in the testing all 5 speakers make the proper sound. I read somewhere else that the sound fluctuations are related to the sound trying to play in all 5 but unable to.

If anybody has a solution to this problem, please help! Its been a bother for over a year now.

Also, the problem was present when I was using my old system, a Dell Dimension 4700 Desktop from 2005. The problem has seemed to carry over to my whole new system (speakers, monitor, keyboard, and mouse are the only things from the previous system).

volume fluctuation issues

I have the same volume fluctuation issues, I still haven't been able to find a solution. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Any suggestions?

Same Problem

I'm having the same issue. Windows 7 x64. Been using it for over a year now and never had a problem. Suddenly today I can't make a phone call without pressing the volume up button on my headset to override Windows trying to automatically turn the volume down.
Went into the Levels tab in Hardware and Sound settings and try to slide the volume slider up only to have Windows turn it back down the moment I let go of the mouse.

Anyone have a fix yet. I've found numerous people in other forums with the same problem. All on Window 7.

Do any of you use hdtvs for your monitors?
i do and i noticed sound fluctuation via hdmi from my tv.. so i ended up jus muting it and using fiber optic to a reciever for sound.. and no more fluctuation.
