VPN Service - Set to Home/Work/Private

Hi, I have a Win 7 Virtual Machine running on my home Win 10 PC. I use a VPN Service on the virtual machine.



Currently I always select "Public" as the network type when I connect to the VPN service. Is there any danger connecting as a "Home" network?


I would like to be able to connect to the NAS on my home network from the VPN'd Virtual Machine, but not if there is any risk.

There is a significant risk in setting an internet connection to anything other than public. For one, the "VPN" is just like any other normal internet connection, and nobody on internet should be able to ever see your computer, so leaving it as public is a fine option, and the only safe choice (other than just not usingg any kind of "VPN", of course).

On the other hand, connecting to a device on the local network shouldn't be impeded by this setting. The VM acts as a client here, and the NAS should be visible on the local network anyway to be of any use. If you can't connect, review the networking setting of the VM in the hypervisor (NAT/bridged network) and try to use its IP if you can't find its name.
