W10 simply wont allow itself to be uninstalled

Hi Lap top got W10 and it isnt used often but drains the battery and loath the system and want to re-install W7.

So looked for format. then went to M$ and they seem to have made it difficult to return now as a lot of stuff has vanished off their web site re how to format the HD and reinstall or install a new version of windows etc.

So decided to crash it. Inserted the new disc with 64 bit version W7 Home and it went through and started to load usual windows opening ----------------then suddenly a black screen similar to command opened and lots of flashing lines and grabbed one orphaned files and next thing it started up W10.

So does that mean we can never ever go back once the W10 has seized control of the computer we paid our own money for and own? Plus we buy their OS discs. Bit rich

Means we have lost control - also batter keeps being used whilst turned off mains, and boot and it is low or drained. someone said M$ can update whilst turned off and this is reason. Spooky just another reason to stick with W7 as I have on this machine and intend to til it runs out in 3 years or so.

I am sure there used to be a format when one googled to use but cant find that either.

Follow these steps to perform a clean install. Clean Install Windows 7

Did you disable Secure Boot in the Bios ?

A win-10 machine you'd have to at least disable fast start inside win-10 first
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Tutorials
And also for good measure disable hibernation using command prompt as administrator

powercfg -h off

After the above you have to make sure win-7 drivers exist for this machine and only the manufacture can tell you that.

All you need is to do a Clean Install Windows 7
Beware - You're going to clean all the disk. Backup your data.
Detach ALL other HDD / SSD from the MB leaving on only the disk you want to have Win 7 installed.
Boot with the Win 7 installation disk, Install - go advanced and delete ALL partitions and then proceed.

If you have the COA stick key (look at your laptop - May be under the battery), you can install win 7 with it.
Download the the iso from M$: Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool
Run the toll and choose Win 7 - Windows 7 SP1 - OEM

You may be the only person here who has not been able to revert back to windows 7.

You have 30 days to simply revert or just clean install 7.

Sounds more like a rant to me

A computer can not be updated when it is off.

And the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 automatically ended nearly 6 months ago.

No - because not heard of it.

Not sure that I can find Bios in this lap top with W10. Its a bit of a mystery tour so much loss of control we once had with previous etc. I've only ever used desk tops for work since 1980's and MS-DOS days. Had an old Radio shack. Its not my lap top.

Hi,
Indeed win-10 makes it difficult to enter a machine bios and boot menu from past versions of windows mostly because it insists on using hibernation instead of shutting down when a user uses power and shut down it still uses hibernation.
Once it is in hibernation a installer sees the hibernation flag and nothing will install

MS counts on people using win-10 built in recovery tools but changes the way people get to them without actually advertising how to get to them
Hold the power button down to start or shut down
Repeat to restart or shut down
Repeat until you get a message to enter recovery tools = brilliant

Once one does finally get into win-10 to disable fast start in power options one should also disable it in their bios too.

Why don't you do a Factory Recover. It will clean and format your disk and install Win 7 as it was new.

Why don't you do a Factory Recover. It will clean and format your disk and install Win 7 as it was new.

Just asked him and he bought it revamped off of E Bay, and didnt come with a disc.

I have a spare product key and happy to use that off of a family pack got 3 used 2.

But will give this thought too It was W7 when he got it.

If this is originally a Windows 7 PC, then there is no reason you can`t reinstall Windows 7.

Your Bios has nothing to do with it not allowing you to reinstall Windows 7 and Windows 10 has nothing to do with it.

Go into the Bios and set it to defaults, usually F5, then save, and exit the Bios, usually F10

You are simply doing something wrong, just follow the steps from the tutorial posted in the 1st reply.
