I build my own joystick, rudder pedals and throttle unit.
Modeled after a Spitfire stick and a P-51 rudder pedals. :D
I first used them on my XP Pro puter, now on my new puter.
In game, the 4 momentaries I have on the joystick seem to have intermittant failures. I have replaced the momentaries, I have replaced the USB module, thats the "plane brain". Still get a button failure at critical times in game.
In game control settings they always work. No issue with XP.
Only difference between then and now is the OS, XP Pro SP3 > W7 and Direct X version, 9.0c > 11.
Any thoughts to what I can check?
DXDiag shows "no problems found".

I dont know much about this type of setup, but it seems as though your drivers or hardware aint making it with WINDOWS 7. What you can do is either find W7 compatible drivers, or, perhaps you should try installing XP drivers in compatibility mode to avoid a OS MISMATCH error if they wont install normally - perhaps this would work with your older setup? I dont know. This is how you do it - if you can do anything with it I dont know:

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Link to kb site - it also has info on locating the inf. thru device manager to install drivers.
You cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista

You can also run the software in compatibility mode after installation :

To run a program in compatibility mode after installation - right click a short-cut to the program, or find the program in program files and do likewise - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start the program.

No drivers, I plug it in an go. Whatever drivers would all be W7 stock drivers.
Do USB ports get throttled some how? I have turned off any save energy options. Plus as I said, they always function in game controller settings.
Thats why I was wondering about DX11.
What would happen if I installed DX 9.0c? Would I corrupt DX11 in any way?
Its an older game and only uses DX8.1 or 9. I realize that DX is suppose to be backward compatible.
I did look at using game in compatability mode but XP is not in the available choices. Game seems to run fine, tho. Except of course the momentary issue.

This is the latest chipset driver to my knowledge 12/22/2009 v9.1.1.1025
INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets

Version 9.5 - are you refering to intel rapid storage driver - If so version 9.6.0.1014 is available here :
RAID: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel Desktop Boards

I see you have raid - so its up to you I guess - i was having some problems with the rapid storage manager myself, but i think it was related to other software - after I renamed a drive in w7 and went to vista on another partition where I have Paragon backup installed vista then couldnt recognise the drive, so i just assigned a drive letter to fix it.

TY

I built a P-51 stick as well, but I was intrigued by the spitfire stick. The action is way different. Now its the only one I use. Been a couple of years now. Pots wear out, takes no time to replace. Did not have the momentary issue with XP, just buttons wearing out. I'll add a throttle pic when I'm next on XP puter.

Bios update maybe?

GA-EX58-UD3R (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - BIOS

Did you read your motherboard manual to see if you can find anything that might cause the problem?

Mines Rev 1.0......- SLI

Bios are good, I just upgraded from RC1 to bought copy, 2 months ago, and I flashed and got the latest of every driver available at the time. From SSD FW's to Lan software. Adding DX 9 was a new idea, figured DX11 was backward compatible....................................

Dx 11 is backward compatible as they say, but you can still update dx9c component, as you have done. You also need a dx11 compatible video card to run dx11 compatible games - either ati 5000 series or the nvidia gforce 400 series.

Have you tried the latest nvidia drivers? download from Guru3D.com

Have you tried running the games in compatbility mode with xp - try with xpsp2 and others.

To run a program in compatibility mode - right click a short-cut to the program, or find the program in program files and do likewise - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start the program.

You might even reinstall it in compatibility mode, but try that lastly.

Got a good test of stuff and still have balking issue with the momentary. Seems to only do it when I'm closing in on someone and I take the shot. When I'm just flying it never balks. Only thing left to do is run new wire. Swapped out everything else.

Sorry this is off topic. I'm not into gaming AT ALL because well...it just doesn't interest me. However, I freaked out when I saw that joystick! Do you mean to tell me you can go online, and dogfight others like your flying a plane? If that's so, I would most definately be interested in something like that. Any info on how to get involved in that would be appreciated.

Yes I do fly online with it,
If your at all mechanically inclined, and you already have the tools, saws, screw guns, solder tool and such. I can tell you where to get basic parts. Cost you $100 to $200. You would pay $200+ for a Saitek X-52 ?????
Depends on what grade of pots you buy, and the type of materials you use. I scavenged most of the materials and chair. Stick pictured is the second generation effort.
