I'm used to periodic lapses when Windows forgets that I have a Bluetooth mouse & keyboard but today's behaviour was really weird.
Fortunately I keep a wired mouse and keyboard strategically hidden just in case.

I just booted into W7 and noticed on the log-on screen that the mouse was behaving erratically - would judder around the screen rather than glide.

Anyway I uninstalled it once I'd booted up and went to reinstall it. It worked but Windows asked for a restart. This had never ever happened before. It even asked for the WEI to be refreshed! I've checked and I can't see anything different driver-wise. I've gone through the motions of uninstalling/reinstalling mouse and keyboard dozens of times but never had this happen.

Comments anyone?

Have you updated anything lately? How about installing anything new?

Perhaps your mouse is running low on batteries?

Nothing changed. Even if that were the case, why would a reinstall of the drivers cause a reboot?

check the little cavity where the mouse reads the surface, also check the mousing surface. Ive found through experience that when a mouse is acting all jittery and funny usually there is a hair there... As for the driver and reboot issue, I am not sure, but I *guess* that may be a separate issue.

Good to hear its working. Yeah a new install could require a reboot, but they don't usually force it.

What did you do to fix it?

Mine was doing the same thing (jittery movement) so I went to the MS support site and downloaded the actual driver for it (instead of whatever driver Win7 automatically used) which seems to have fixed the issue.

However, now I can't scroll with my wheel. I've gone to the Control Panel and adjust the sensitivity for the scrolling all the way up, and the proper boxes are ticked.

Any ideas?

I uninstalled and reinstalled as I said in my 1st post...by that I mean Intellipoint 7 and Intellitype Pro 7 software from the Microsoft Hardware site - look for Downloads.

Its a beta.... That may be the problem. However, it might be bad drivers? Try downloading new ones and reinstall them.

I went to uninstall the MS Intellipoint that I got from MS and that seems to have fixed everything up. Not sure what the difference is between before I installed it and after the uninstall but I'm not complaining.

A bit fearful to restart tho'.

I always use the versions from the MS hardware page, works fine on my laser desktop 8000 (both mouse and keyboard--- WHICH ROCKS by the way) never had a single issue since November (build 6801 though now).

I dunno if I could use a curved keyboard....

EDIT: Oh my, I just looked at the prices as well. No keyboard is that nice.
