I have a CD KEY from MSDN for windows 7, how many times can I use this CD KEY. Someone said 1 time and then if you try again it will blacklist the key. Someone else said 10 times, you can install it onto 10 pc's.

I dont want to get it blacklisted for the current pc i have installed it onto.

are you a member of msdn?
If no using that key is illegal....

If you are you would have noticed the get another key button.
You can get up to ten keys, each for one time use.

Hi,
You can reinstall Windows on the same computer as many times as you want because activation pairs the Windows product key with information about your computer hardware. If you make a significant hardware change, you might have to activate Windows again.

Ok but what happens if I try to install it on another PC of mine. Will the key become nblacklisted and my other pc with it installed already need a new key?

Yes,, probably. If you are using the sames keys on several PC's this is considered abuse and would be blacklisted and your MSDN account blocked/banned. If the MSDN account is not yours and you got the key somewhere else, expect that that key will become blacklisted in the near future anyway. If you got it from a friend, it is possible that their account could also be banned.

If you do move the key to a new PC and activate that one and not using it on any other PC, this, as far as I know, is acceptable. They are kinda like, i think, retail keys.

You can use them only on one PC at a time.

Keep in mind that MSDN (Technet) keys are for evaluation of the product only and are not supposed to be used on a primary used PC.

Also,, the others are correct,, you get 10 separate keys for one PC each. That's it.

Hello behroze.

If it's a full retail key it can be installed an unlimited number of times as long as it is only activated on a single PC at a time; an OEM version is forever tied to the first motherboard it is installed to but can also be installed an unlimited number of times to that same mobo.

Hi there -- is this MSDN or TECHNET.

TECHNET gives 5 or 2 sets of keys depending on your subscription level but each key can be activated 10 times (on different computers).

MSDN I believe but not sure has 10 KEYS but not sure of the number of activations allowed. I can't imagine that MSDN would be more restrictive than TECHNET so I would assume 10 activations per key were the rule.

Try it and see. BUT DO NOT SELL OR GIVE AWAY THESE KEYS. I think this is the main reason MS reduced the number of keys on TECHNET from 10 to 5 for most products.

As per retail W7 editions there is NO problem re-installing W7 on the original machine --you can activate the key until "The Cows Come Home".

Cheers

jimbo
