My Windows 7 Professional:
- x64
- computer delivered w/o OS
- full retail

System (hw) age: 1,5 y/o
Age of OS install: 2 months, and I have done fresh re-installs (incl. formatting) earlier (The errors first occured about 1 month ago).

Description and occurrence:
I'm getting daily reboots and BSODS (not all the time - sometimes I just get a reboot) along with them.
This happens when I play games or watch videos (so I assume it's a graphics/sound/network issue).

The windows event viewer is getting very thin info on it:

Critical 2010-09-07 17:53:07 Kernel-Power 41 (63)
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Also submitted dumps as told.

In addition - yes, I have been looking around several threads (not only on sevenforums) on similar issues and nothing people has suggested has helped, so far.

I've updated my BIOS by using @BIOS by Gigabyte.

My last stop before purchasing a new motherboard (please let it be something else!)
is sevenforums.com.

Hope you'll be able to help me out!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

First thing to do with random reboots is to check temps - overheating CPU can cause automatic shutdowns.

You can uses Speedfan to do this: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

In terms of possible software issues - your system looks pretty good and given that the problem remained after a re-install I do not believe the problem is software related.

So, run some hardware testing to try to narrow down the faulty component.

Also, what PSU are you using? (brand/model?)

This is not meant as a replacement for Reventon's good advice, only something to add on.

I see you are having a lot of network errors. Try changing your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. That is Google DNS, just a change from your current DNS server in case that is causing problems.

and many many more.

One BSOD blames ndis.sys, adding to my suspicion.

Thank you for taking your time evaluating my system!

I'll start off with the lighter parts (replacing AVG with MSE) of the advices and then continue deeper and deeper.
This due to lack of time (gotta work, pfft).

Also, my PSU is made by Ace and the model name is AC-520 RD+.

Once again, thanks alot for helping me out!

Edit below:
Removed AVG for MSE.

Prime95 test: 16:08 - 01:35
~

Seems completely normal and no errors were found.

I also tried FurMark and I reached 78°C (very slow temperature increase at the end, obviously) within 5 minutes.

I also tried getting some physical info on my memory sticks by touching them and they were scalding hot - however this does not seem to be the core issue since the system has rebooted within minutes of a boot. Nevertheless I should probably get some cooling going on there.

I will run the other tests you suggested later.

Also, this is slightly disturbing:
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/4987/sfdisplay.jpg

What could explain the Temp3 one and most particularly - which module is it?

Another thing I just noticed is that dxdiag freezes when it's testing DirectShow and that's never happened before the computer started crashing.

Hi,

Last 2 software things to do:

Update your sound driver
Code:
[font=lucida console]RTKVHD64.sys Thu Jul 03 20:56:41 [COLOR=Red]2008[/COLOR] (486C9449)[/font]

Try and find an update from your motherboard manufacturer's site first.

Also remove STPD.sys as it is known to cause BSODs; remove Daemon Tools, then use this SPTD installer to remove it (pick the uninstall option when you run the installer): DuplexSecure - Downloads

Apart from that - run the other hardware tests.

Reventon

Updated the driver allthough I know for a fact that it wasn't the main source to the problems as I tried to use an older driver instead of the newest one to see if it was faulty.
Nevertheless it's always good to be up to date.

As for the STPD.sys error I would like to point out that I never used Daemon Tools on this computer, but PowerISO. I guess they are related in terms of virtual disks, but I wasn't able to uninstall STPD by using the installer. However I installed it, rebooted, uninstalled it and rebooted again - to see if it made any fuzz.

So far the computer hasn't gone wacky again, but I'll get to the other hardware tests before I claim a victory.

I don't know what "fixed" it but the system seems stable for now.

The only thing that I'm currently worried about is that high temperature number on "Temp3".

It's labeled "IT8720F".
Once again, the link (Temp3)

That does look a bit hot.

The "IT8720F" chip is one of the chips on your motherboard - I am not entirely sure which one.

Doublecheck that the cooling in your case is working - and that it is as dust free as possible.

Also, speedfan can sometimes be inaccurate - so check what temperature is reported in BIOS.

Will do, tomorrow 15th (on a lap now).

Also, I had another bluescreen of the same nature (graphics getting torn into pieces and the sound locking up).

I'm guessing it's the direct cause of overheating - speedfan reports the temperature rising very quick only moments after a boot.

Laters ~~

The temperatures shown in BIOS are normal. (~42~ish).

Also, the fans are dust free.
