I have a Gateway MX6431 ATI Radeon Xpress 1150. *edit* Running Windows 7 Professional. Not an RC.

I just got a new 40" LCD TV, and connected the laptop to it with an svideo cable for just a few minutes for no reason other than to do it. Now, when i disconnect the laptop from the TV the display goes crazy on the laptop's monitor. Even when i select to use only the monitor 1 (laptop) i can't disconnect from the TV without the display getting messed up. Once i disconnect from the TV, the display is fine until i try and make a display setting, like "detect monitors" than it goes crazy if the TV is not plugged. Or on reboot without the TV plugged, the laptop monitor messes up. As long as the TV is plugged in, no problems.

How can i make my laptop stop acting up without the presence of the LCD TV?

thanks.

I tried rolling back the drivers, as well as uninstall and reinstalling them. problem still persists. when using the onboard vga, the system works fine. but with the drivers installed and using the ATI video it still happends. Is there a way to disable s video? as i'm not planning on using the TV as a monitor, and just connected them for no reason other than i was playing with my new TV.

I totally forgot about my video adapter. It's the generic VGA adapter

I'm running a dual Boot Vista And Windows 8 Pro.

My graphics score was a horrible 1.0

What type of connection are you hooking up yo the TV?

If you've been using the CCC for settings, use the built in Windows display part instead.

If you've been using the Windows display part, try CCC instead.

Any luck?

Right click the desktop.

If there's no option for it, run the driver install .exe again. Choose custom mode while installing and see if it is an option you can choose.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo....aspx?type=2.7&product=2.7.5.3.1&lang=English

---------------------------------------------

If you want to install only the driver first (may be better this way) - extract that to C:\ATI by running then closing right after extraction.

Then right click the card in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Now find and double click on the CL .inf Hit ok. Hit next and let it install.

When it's done, the run setup.exe in C:\ATI somewhere.

I'll give that a try.

This is also something strange.

The TV is listed as generic non PnP monitor now, but when is "uninstall" the TV as a monitor under device manager it says it is uninstalled, but there is still a display on the TV. Also, in display settings the name changes to S Video monitor, from generic non PnP.

I thought that was a bit strange.

THANKS GUYS!! Its fixed now. reinstalling CCC and using it to correct the video settings did the trick. Now it no longer trips out when not attached to the TV.
