W7 Misidentify Native Resolution

(If this has already been solved, please send me a link. Thanks!)

Okay, I've seen this problem discussed all over the Web in various forms.

My problem is that W7 is incorrectly identifying the native resolution of my 22" wide screen, 16:10 monitor.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT and a Sceptre X22WG-1080p 16:10 LCD with a high resolution of 1680 x 1050. It was running perfectly on Vista 64-bit. I upgraded to 64-bit W7, and W7 insists my native resolution is 1920 x 1080. I am using a DVI to DVI cable, the same I used with Vista. When I set the resolution to 1680 x 1050, which I can do through W7 settings, the screen shrinks and is bordered by black bars on either side.

I have the most up-to-date drivers from NVIDIA ( 191.07_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql ), however this does not correct the problem. I've also used the NVIDIA control panel to change the resolution to 1680 x 1050, but I get the small screen with black bars on the sides.

I've manually installed the older Vista NVIDIA drivers, but this does not fix it either. I also tried uninstalling the monitor to see if W7 would find it and properly identify it.

Over on the the NVIDIA forums (which are down at the moment) they may have found a patch. You have to modify the .inf file in the driver setup files.

In order to do so, you have to write in the four hex numbers of your monitor EDID. I have my EDID information, but I'm not sure how to fid the hex numbers. Here's the info. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Oh, but I should also say that I'm concerned that Monitor Asset manager says my native res is 1920x1080 as well. My 22" Sceptre definitely has a native of 1680x1050. What's going on here?

Ok i have a similar problem ..My problem is i cant get to my native resolution of 1680x1050 using DVI (My pc was running fine, best system ive ever seen to be honest but my Hard drive died so i replaced it and re installed Win 7 rc 64bit and now cant get past 1280x720 in screen resolution options)..Installed all drivers and updated all to my knowledge ...tried multiple drivers from Nvidia and the best i get is 1280x720...Tried powerstrip as a fix and no good(Be warned the powerstrip program can cause major headaches to the point ur monitor wont work)..installed the latest drivers from guru and still the same problem ...Im seriously out of ideas on how to fix this ...

Im using gforce 8600gt on 22" viewsonic LCD..also it comes up with some Generic monitor non pnp ..Im at a lost and extremely fraustrated with this ..any help would be so muchly appreciated.. Extremly sad now due to the Fact my Pc was Running so well with basically everything running so damn sweet with the win 7 os ....

all i can ask is please if there is a fix for this particular problem post how to do so ..
Thx for your time

Check device manager for the driver date/version of video card. Which is it?

Why can't you select 1680x1050? Is it missing or what is stopping you?

Try changing the refresh rate to 60 Hz first in advanced settings, monitor tab. Then see if higher resolutions are available.

If you are still having problems, check out solution somewhere in the middle of this thread.

Not really bothered with the 59hz bug as it worked fine on 59hz at 1680x1050 ...All i want is for that resolution to be obtained again ..Old problems months ago is that when ever new updates came out it would actually end up saying no digital signal ..But back to my original and only problems i just want to set my lcd monitor 1680x1050 (native) its a massive problem and there must be answers to it surely ..

this i assume is the digital (DVI) ...

manually install Viewsonic drivers ...

What i notice is that in DVI mode the native is unknown..(maybe where the problem lies)..

(Attempted this with just the drivers that came with Win 7)
Also when i try to install via windows update it fails ...it does have options to update Nvidia and Viewsonic but fails when i try
Also really appreciate the help on this matter its been awesome..
