W7 on MAC Boot Camp Partition - No Sound

Hi

I have an audio problem that I can't figure out.

I installed Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition in my 13" Mac Book. The Mac is not a Mac Book Pro. Its an Aluminum Uni-Body Mac Book purchased new in December 2008. The Mac partition has MAC OS 10.5.5 loaded on it. I have been told by several Apple geniuses that there is no such thing as this model so let me clarify that there is. It has no fire wire port and no back lit keys.

The problem is no sound when booted into Windows 7. Nothing out of the speakers and nothing out of the headphone jack. Audio works fine when I am booted into the MAC OS. I have not tried SPDIF as I have nothing to test it with. In Device Manager everything is fine, working normally and enabled. Speakers Properties are all set to default - 16 bit 44.1Khz sampling rate. Both Exclusive Mode boxes are checked. Enhancements are all off, level is up and balance is at 50 % Left/Right.

There are 4 drivers listed at C:\Windows\system32\drivers

dmk.sys
HdAudio.sys
ksthunk.sys
portcls.sys

There are 2 listed at C:\Windows \system32

SysFxUI.dll
WMALFXGFXDSP.dll

Provided is Microsoft. File Version says 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi I'm running pretty much the same setup as you (bar I have the more powerful 2.4Ghz CPU and a backlit keyboard) and I'm running Snow Leopard.

Windows 7 has been known to have sound problems under BootCamp 2.0 but I never experienced these oddly enough.

Have you installed all the appropriate drivers from the Mac OS X install DVD onto Windows?

If you haven't do that and restart.

Now check for updates in Apple software update and install any needed.

I would also recommend upgrading to Snow Leopard not only because it is newer but also because of the included Bootcamp 3.1 Software which officially supports Windows 7 but of course this is optional, it can also be downloaded straight from Apple at Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 32 bit but I am not sure if it will work straight from 2.X (hopefully it will).

The audio driver required for audio to work on Bootcamp is not the generic Realtek one Windows uses.

Hopefully this will solve any problems.

THANK YOU for your reply. From reading around, I figured it was a driver issue. It also seems that if I load MAC drivers, MAC function keys [like volume and maybe screen brightness controls] will work also. Is that true ?

I have some more questions so I will PM you rather that post a novel here. Any info that may be helpful to others I will be sure to post here for all.

Most important question, that maybe some others are wondering [or maybe is stupid] -

How do I install the MAC drivers into W7? Do I do it from inside W7 [which would require MacDrive to read the MAC install disk] or do I boot to theMAC install disc. If so, how does it install anything to an NTFS partition? Mac can only read NTFS - I am confused !

Easy, please also read my PM.

Just pop in the install disk after you've booted into Windows and follow the prompts.
