W7 problem on Asus Prime H370-M motherboard (Coffee Lake CPU)

I know, I know: this is nothing new.

Thing is, I'm stuck with this hardware now, so I'm looking for a workable work-around.
Oddly the W7 install seemed to go okay: the screen shows the familiar list of options when it rebooted - like 'Start Windows normally',etc.
But when I chose that option, it just rebooted back to the same screen.
So the OS appears to be housed on the 250GB NVME SSD okay.
Just needs something - drivers I guess - for it to go further.


BTW: I don't need MS updates - haven't used them for years.
And I will not, NOT, NOT install W10.


PS: I know there are boards now with '310' chipsets that apparently offer some support for W7 but, for several reasons, I'd rather get the Asus H370-M fired up, if it's at all possible.

I think you may need the nvme msu files.

You probably also need a pcie to usb3 adapter if you want usb3

Did you disabled secure boot and fast boot on BIOS?
Did you install as Legacy-MBR or EFI-GPT?

SIW2: I don't think the NVME drivers were a problem. Windows did install, going by the familiar screen that came up- like when you reboot W7 without properly closing it down. But when I selected 'Boot normally' - or anything else - it just recyled back to that screen.


Megahertz07: I tried it both ways: with UEFI defaults and then with MBR (and all the attendant settings for that option) which is what I used on my last build with a Z170 board.



JohnHoh: Thanks, I took a look at that link - interesting. The Maximus Hero board is way more sophisticated than mine but I assume the important parameter is the 370 chipset. Mine is an H370-M, the Hero is the Z370. Which, while it has more bells and whistles than mine, is actually older by 12-18 months.
I'm no CPU expert, but I'm wondering if my H370 might have less flexibility, driverwise, than the Z370.


Like, after MS told Intel to stop adding w7 support to the chipset.


Anyone know if this is so?
