W7 Starter & DVD playback
looking at getting an external dvd usb player to play dvd's whats the best software to use as media player will not play them.

I use media player to play everything (hehe)
Many prefer VLC, because you don't have to install codecs.
If you want to play it in WMP you'll need a codec pack
Download Klite from
this page, you want to use 'Standard' at least (I'd recommend the usage of 'Mega' if you want to play really anything in the future)

Check the Windows media player box shown in the video at 1:54, on the next screen select everything.
Yes, now dvd files will be played with WMP.
