I just reformatted my PC and for some reason the program preview on the taskbar (when you hover the mouse over an open program) is not working.

It will occasionally work for about 10 minutes then will suddenly stop.

Any fixes please?

Firstly make sure your graphics drivers are installed and up to date, and make sure you are running an aero theme. Then try the aero troubleshooter - Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\DisplayAeroDesktopEffects

It told me no issues/problems were found. All the drivers are up to date, so not sure what's going on

Ok a few other things to check

Check in system properties that "Let Windows Choose Whats Best For My Computer" is selected and the boxs are checked as below
Capture.PNG

In regedit navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM. On the right locate the value EnableAeroPeek and make sure its value is set to 1.

Reset and re run W.E.I - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/79177-windows-experience-index-reset.html

Reboot

Let me know how you get on

Edit - Also at this point I would run this - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

in the start search box ,type services,
click the result with the cog icon and in the services window that opens scroll down to Desktop window manager session manager/ click it to highlight it and on the left of the pane click the start this service link, if it is already started click stop this service then click start this service .
hopefully that will get the aero peek functioning correctly for you.

Try a reboot of the system, and then post your results.

EDIT: You probably have already discussed this, but your graphics card support DVM?

What is DWM (Desktop Window Manager)? - This may help you decide if it does or not (:

Sorry to invade the thread

Hope this helps,

Harry

Gotcha. I rebooted and it seems to be working. I'd assume my graphics card does support DVM - The exact specifications for the GFX card: NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 425M CUDA (1GB)

I won't mark this thread as solved just yet in case I run into any other problems.

Thank you very much for the help and I will let you know if it all works out :)
