So, I've been having Vista for quite some time, and decided to switch to windows 7. I got my copy, and upgraded from my vista installation. After the upgrade, when everything was completed with the installation, it wouldn't get to the desktop. I get this error each time I'm past the login screen: The procedure entry point dwmhintdxupdate could not be located in the dynamic library user32.dll

I have tried to search for a fix all around the internet, but I can't seem to find any. There is very few people who seem to have this problem at all.

Please, please help! I have a lot of files I can't loose there, and if I have to format now, I have a hella lot of work ahead of me.
In advance, thank you.

Yeah, I thought I'd just ask on forums a little first..

Doing a clean install isn't exactly what I wanted, but I'll have to do that if everything else fails, sadly..

The fact that you're getting dynamic link library errors straight after a fresh install screams a clean reinstallation.

I've seen that post as well. But he seem to have Aurora.exe in top of the error box, where i have explorer.exe.. I doubt it's the same thing, but even if it was, I'm not sure how to change screen saver without explorer.. I can't enter control panel through Run command either..

then i guess reinstallation is the only way.

The fact it starts up to a specific error message makes it even more likely MS will know how to troubleshoot, roll back, or get in-place started up again.

They spend a fortune on the best tech support in the business. Issues they cannot fix are elevated to a research team. They can help you save your data, at least.

You paid for it with a retail key.

Do you get a black screen with a cursor on it?\

If so,tap Alt-Ctl-Del to open Task mananger and choose new task and type in explorer.exe.

Are you booting from the Win7 DVD and using Custom>Advanced tools to format the drive first? This is the cleanest possible install.
