I have a USB connected cradle for an HP PDA that has sync'd fine previously under Vista with WMD 6.1. After the W7 upgrade it does not. WMD will show 'connecting' for a period of time and then 'error' with no further description. The only suggestion that I have found is to re-download and re-install 6.1 which I did to no avail?

Have you checked your the HP website (specifically, the support site for your PDA) for Windows 7 compatibility/instructions?

I take it you have run windows update with the device connected and powered on? Windows 7 downloads a couple drives and apps for my touch pro. It was almost like it downloaded windows mobile device center twice plus a driver, before it would work. I just kept running windows update.

Frankly I don't remember if the device was or was not in the cradle at the time that I upgraded. I did just check and the MS W7 site said the device is okay.

I'll do as you did for now and continue keeping the device in the cradle and updating.

As a follow-up...if I keep the PDA in the cradle when I force Windows Update to check, is the process actually able to check what's connected to my computer against installed drivers against what is newer or needed?

Interesting...I have a TP and it synced up right away (after installing WinMo Device Center, that is). Are you running WinMo 6.1 (on your Touch Pro)?

That's my understanding, anyway...

Closing update to my initial post.

I resolved the problem by:

a. deleting the partnership between WMD and the device
b. uninstalling WMD
c. downloading (again and the same ver) and reinstalling WMD without the device in the cradle (oddly, installing WMD with the device in the cradle failed with WMD not finding the device)

The device now works fine. The only other problem (a problem that I've had before doing this same sort of thing) is that when the device and Outlook syc'd, the device ended up with duplicate of tasks, contacts and calendar entries. I guess next time I'll have to try and remember to erase all data on the device?

Although I have a post on the Outlook forum as yet unanswered, possibly someone in this group has an answer for the duplicated items in Outlook calendar. Is there a way within Outlook 2007 to clear all Outlook previously inserted holidays and then add them back as a quicker way of getting rid of the duplicates?

Thanks,

Mark
